Hi ! Yesterday was my first GPL online race! It was 20:00 French time. On B.Joystick server at Oestricht...something.. :o) First off all, B.Joystick was the only server with no disconnection i've found :o( I've got a PCI 56k modem and i thought it will be fast enough :o( I was never played on Oestrich ... arg.. some tricky turns out there ! :o) My nick is MagicFr if some of you was there ... I've visited some grass, anyway it was fun to race human drivers :o) I can't wait to play online again..., on a well known tack :o) regards, -- Sebastien Tixier Suzuki 650 SVS bleue 2000 (MagicFr) GPLRank handicap -28.66 Game Developer personal : http://magicfr.multimania.com company : http://www.eden-studios.fr

What matters on VROC is the steadiness of connection, not the outright speed. A ping of 400 and quality of 0.995 is much better than ping of 200 and quality of 0.940. B.Joystick has an excellent reputation for those of us in western Europe - from here (UK) it's usually <200 ping and >0.990 quality :) -- David. Sébastien, Have you tuned your DUN settings for your modem? The settings for FIFO buffers, flow control and error handling have a significant affect on online performance. Check out the online section at Alison's page for details: http://www.simracing.com/~alison/gpl/ 56K is plenty fast enough (28.8 will work). In fact you may want to set your maximum connection to 19200 bps or 22400. This keeps the modem from retraining (trying to connect at faster speeds while you are racing). Also, is the modem a Winmodem ( also called software or controllerless modems)? Winmodems can create problems for online play as they use some of the CPU for processing the signals. A winmodem can be made to work by turning down graphics/resolution but they generally aren't as good as a hardware modem for online play (see Alison's page for more details). You should get a solid 36 fps while online (at least after the race start). If you don't turn down some of the details/graphics. Have you installed the disco patch (http://www.papy.com/gpl/download.html )? Its supposed to reduce the number of disconnections. Hope some of this helps Ken MacKay Halifax, Canada GPL Handicap +80.61 Sébastien Tixier wrote:

Well, not, i've download it but in the exiting of VROC connection i'v forgot to install it :o) > Hope some of this helps Thank you for your help and your time ! regards, -- Sebastien Tixier Suzuki 650 SVS blue 2000 (MagicFr) GPLRank handicap -28.66 Game Developer personal : http://magicfr.multimania.com company : http://www.eden-studios.fr
