Voodoo3 best mid-range card for NASCAR3?

I've got a friend who runs NASCAR3 on a mid-spec PII computer. They were using, oddly enough, a Diamond Fire GL 1000 Pro. It looks like the memory is hosed on the card (text is garbled the minute you install the drivers). I need to get a replacement card that will run N3 well. Voodoo3/Glide looks to be the best basic option, but I was wondering how TNT2 cards compared in D3D. Speed's not a huge issue, he uses it for qualifying practice and never runs against the AI. I've only ever bought 3dfx cards, so I have no nVidia experience. Would a single V2 or V2 SLI work well (I know I've got at least one V2 laying around, maybe 2)? I'm not at liberty to drop names, but he is a BGN driver (further proof that real racers *do* use PC sims for practice). TIA! Kendt Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Like "I get XXFPS with a TNT2 on my PII/III"? I know for a fact that 3dfx does not "suck" - I've been very happy with every card I've had (V5-5500 now). a Voodoo3 card will give the absolute best Nascar3 experience because the game runs best (and looks better) in Glide mode. Also, since the game features built in Anti-Aliasing you don't even need a V5 to get rid of the jaggies.
I got max fps (31) running at 1024x768 with a Voodoo3 3000 AGP on a PII 333 with 128MB, with most graphic details set in the mid range, and a few non-essentials (crowds, etc.) turned off. The only track that didn't run well at 1024 was Bristol and it was fine at 800x600. That was with a full field of AI but only 12 in front, 3 back. If you only run laps by yourself the V3 will be just fine. And they're cheaper now that the 4's and 5's are out. Make sure you get the newest drivers from 3dfxgamers.com <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8tcimf$3b4$[email hidden]...

Either brand of card works well with N3. The only advantages the 3dfx has are the ability to run all the converted ICR2/GPL tracks in 3d mode. Some of them don't like non-glide cards. The Fire GL is a SUCKY gaming card. He'll be glad to toss it...Either the TNT2 ultra/GeForces or a 3dfx V3 3k or V4 4400 will work very well with his system. Mainly price will be the issue here. The V3 3k's are running under $75 new...at some online sites. shop around. Tell the guy, good luck and we'll want to see RAS painted on his car soon...hehe dave henrie <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8tcimf$3b4$[email hidden]...

No the V3 does AA in N3 very well. But NOT in gpl. dave henrie " > You can't use that option on a V3. I believe you need a Rendition > card. > -- > xyz
For the price, a Voodoo 3 will run N3 very well. Currently running my V3 3000 AGp on a PIII 600, and getting max fps. You'll be very happy with a V3. I've had zero problems with mine. Don On Fri, 27 Oct 2000 18:48:51 GMT, [email hidden] wrote:

The D3D rasterizer in Nascar Racing 3 looks much worse then Glide. There is a very evident difference between both. Any type of Voodoo 3 card is an excellent choice for Nascar Racing 3. -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... -- http://www.WeRace.net -- People think it must be fun to be a super genius, but they don't realise how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world.
