With the GP3 patch now out, there are a lot of people
jumping up and down pleased that they can now run a
'split axis' pedal system with their wheel.
Could someone describe the advantages of this system?
Is it worth me ripping my pedals apart and installing an
extra pot so that I can get dual axis as well?
And most importantly... are your lap times quicker?

To put it simply split axis support is the biggest joke I've ever come
across in any sort of gaming in my life. It does nothing, It hardly effects
your driving style, if anything it can slow you down due to brakes dragging
(probably without you even touching the pedals as I found the hard way!)
Split axis means that the brake and throttle pedal work independently, if
you don't have split axis if means that say you have your foot on the
throttle, then brake and it cancels out the action of the accelerator.
It's not wanted, it's not needed, and its an utter joke that a sim like GP3
is put down purely due to not having this.
It's a feature that's nice to have but completely useless.

Umm, you're joking right? Have you never used the brake in
counjunction with the throttle to control the car around a corner. I
know it doesn't apply to GP3, but what about trying to start on a
slight incline. How do you hold the brake and rev the engine with a
combined axis system?
A small advantage is that you don't have to wait for the throttle
pedal to spring back before you can get full braking power.
Going back to my first point again, if you are braking into a corner
and the rears start to lock, you press the throttle a little and it
unlocks them. Using combined axis this would have the effect of
releasing the brake slightly, which will make you take longer to stop
as the fronts will not be receiving the full amount of braking you
intended.
Split axis is much more realistic, combined is just because they
wanted them to act like a joystick, a botch job if you like.

In GPL u are much faster using split axis.
Just like it real life racing u can use the brakes while u are still on the
throttle.
Also using some throttle while braking hard keeps the car more stable.
U can try this in GPL Monza Parabolica corner: when u brake hard for this
corner without using throttle, the car will be uncontrolable.
Completely useless?
I guess ur not really into sim-racing, so shut up please

You say it's not wanted, not needed, and an utter joke. Then why is it a
feature that's nice to have? You're contradicting yourself...

Sorry, I have to disagree.
Have you ever autocrossed or raced a real vehicle with an automatic
transmission? The technique used is called "left foot braking." By
independently working your brakes and acceleration you can keep your engine
rpms higher into the power curve as you negotiate a turn. If you take into
account the brake bias of a vehicle, you can lock the front wheels and apply
power to the rear wheels and generate some interesting dynamics.
Racing sims like GPL and GP3 use real life physics as close as possible. If
you have your controllers setup to give you precise control, a split-axis
setup can give you better track times.

This is a troll, right?
I case not:
never disaggreed more with a post.
I could not race GPL w/o split axis.
Why?
I almost each corner I steer with brake *and* throttle *at the same time*.
IMO it's more important than the wheel input, which only sets the starting point
of the cornering.

Agreed....split axis is incredibly important
