You would think that most old men would be out playing with their
grandchildren, or possibly trimming their hedges, or just plain enjoying
their life after their prime......think again. Check out the playstation 2
newsgroup to see what an old man named Rrevved spends all of his free time
doing! Mr Rrevved is spending hours per day in the playstation 2 newsgroup
trolling and flaming any credible post anyone makes about the PS2. Yes,
this is the same PS2 that is used to play games! games! Rrevved is 50+
years old and has made it his mission in life to spend hours per day in a
game console newsgroup. Does he have any interest in purchasing a PS2? No,
he has stated so himself.....instead he goes there to act like a child. Sad
I guess, kinda feel sorry for him. :(
Flame warCross-posted attack on regular poster rrevved
A poster cross-posted a mocking message about rrevved, an older r.a.s. regular, posting in a PlayStation 2 newsgroup. Some joined in with crude abuse while r.a.s. regulars defended rrevved as helpful and Barton Brown threatened to report abusive posters. The thread drifted into language and accent banter.

Hey, I'm 52 years old and I spend hours per day in several newsgroups
(alt.depends.binaries, rec.bladdercontrol.fetish) ... and most people
here in ras probably think all I do is flame and troll. What do you
think we should do with these oldsters, Aaron -- turn 'em all into
Soylent Green?
If you want to feel sorry for someone, start with yourself. Get THAT
mess straightened out, and think work outward...

Why?
He is a stupid cocksucker.
He has great-grandchildren, we figured it out one time, the average age of
new parents in his family, is 14 years old.

PS2s in their unopened boxes are currently drawing about 600$ on Ebay.
At that rate, having one of those first day PS2s (@300$) could afford
you about 1200 new lives. That's an excellent reason to get one if

I'd have taken it in a heartbeat if I had a prebuy. The odds of being
able to sell, at a profit, something very desirable which is in
extremely limited release are quite good.

I personally wouldn't do that, I wouldn't do anything I didn't enjoy
for 16 hours for 300$ But a lot of people had prepurchase options on
the unit which meant they didn't have to stand in the rain at all.
I just checked Ebay. Within the next HOUR alone, there are *60* PS2
auctions closing and none of them is less than 500$ at the moment, a
few are close to 700$. Doesn't sound too risky to me.

SONY will release additional PSX2 units strategically to maximize sales
for the Christmas feeding frenzy, which pretty much begins with the
month of November, peaking on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving
here in the States), and usually running strongly right through
Christmas Eve. With Christmas on a Monday this year, the weekend of
12/23-12/24 will likely be a horror show of classic proportions -- the
US economy is hot (couldn't tell by *my* bank account...), and people
are buying like crazy. I have little doubt that SONY will carefully
manage their hype and their inventory of 2s to keep demand and price
high. No one's better at this marketing manipulation than SONY.
Whether the PSX2 is cutting-edge technology (so-far-vaporware Indrema
looks like a much more advanced platform, but what do I know...) or
cutting-edge marketing, the fact remains that Junior and Sis are
screaming their materialistic little hearts out for them to be under the
X-Mas tree OR ELSE, so give-'em-anything-to-shut-'em-up Mom and Pop will
turn their wallets inside out to get them. Every year it's something:
Cabbage Patch, Beanie Babies, Pokemon... This year it happens to be
something with an MSRP of $US300. Don't be looking for any discounts
until the President's Day Sales next Spring...

No offense intended, Goy -- I've always thought of "Northern Europe" as
historically Gallic, Celtic, and Vandal, while the Norse countries have
always been, in my mind, lumped together (probably unjustly) as
"Scandinavia"... the result, I'm sure, of the quaint provincialism of
the American public school system, which regards any history, geography,
or science not its own as insignificant...

Please reply to me in private email (or here, if you like -- but it
would be nice for you to save some face, don't you think?) about what
"rules" you think I've transgressed, so I can set you on the path to

Correct, Bruce -- when a German makes a *scherz*, he must add "Ha. Ha.
Ha." at the end. Otherwise, *he* forgets it's a joke...
BTW: Australia, Austria -- my niece's new (and only) husband and his
family are from Iowa. He mentioned this at his place of work (in Denver
-- Americans NEVER stay put!), and a lady who works with him said: "Oh,
where I come from, we pronounce it O-high-O." Ha. Ha. Ha.
Seeing as how "M" (I *loved* Peter Lorre in that movie!) has crawled
back into the baseboards, perhaps we should retire this header...
Actually, it's probably sadder that most folks probably knew *who* the
subject line was referring to before reading the rest of the message...

Most people in America pronounce Arkansas as Are - ken - SAW. Still not
phonetic though. The Brits are to blame for this crazy language with no
consistency in spelling or pronunciation.

He is, but he's trying to hide it by admitting to it.

Uhhhh ... sure, you bet. Unless I possess psychic powers of amazing
potency and of which I'm completely unaware, I'm afraid I'm not quite
ready to accept responsibility for other people's foul language and/or
stupidity. You might note that I don't use that kind of language in my
posts, and I can give you the URLs of several ISPs and mail servers who
will attest that I don't enjoy that kind of language in the posts of
others in this NG, either.

I'm not sure what sort of medication you're on, but either increase or
decrease the dosage until your compass points somewhat in the direction
of reality, OK?
We don't get that advert Down Here, Bart.
I assume that you are referring to one Paul Hogan and a commercial for a
Subaru Outback?
In which case, "Tad concerned" is NOT an OZism and "innit" isn't
either.......more like "izn't".
(Did you ever read or hear of a book called "Strine: As She Is Spoke", by
Afferbeck Lauder?)

No, but I'd love to find it -- Henry Manney (Road & Track) took a stab
at imitating ahtbeck strine in the introduction to a race report for an
event which Jack Brabham (Ol' Jeck, th' terror a' Sinnybridge) won, and
close it with apologies to Afferbeck Lauder. I do have such a book on
"Lankyshire, as she is spoke", and love dialect stuff like that.
I'll have to find that Lauder book -- meanwhile I'll look up the Manney
quote and post it -- it's a scream!
BB
Good stuff...I'll look forward to it.
If I find a copy of "Strine...etc." I'll grab it.

Hey Bart

Then YOU went on to write:

Oh dear! Incitement to be abusive, what were you thinking of?;) The lad
didn't reply, but you couldn't have known that at the time, because as
YOU say, you don't have psychic powers.<G>

You know it's not polite to ridicule someone for messy grammar etc.
English may not be their 1st language, or they might even be dyslexic,
either way it's not nice to be on the receiving end. So please stop it,
ok? Sorry if I seem argumentative, but I do feel deeply about this kind
of thing.
I mean, you wouldn't laugh at someone in a wheelchair would you...course
not. Dyslexia isn't nice mate, it's a real handicap to it's sufferers in
a very real sense. It can fill a person with self loathing and despair;
imagine feeling like that just because someone like you fired off some
unkind words.
Think about it Bart, or at least try to ;). I know you're a nice guy
really.
BTW, do you ever race GPL on VROC...like to race ya sometime.
Best
Gerry
Sorry for any poor sMelling etc <G>.
