I was talking to a friend (Bill :-) about how crap I am on the inital
take-off in both GP3 & GPL.
He then came up with a great idea that would be fantastic to see in racing
sims.
The ability to select practice starts that would last to the first corner
then allow you to repeat.
What about extending that to specific turns, eg: the parabolica at monza
(still haven't got that one
right yet). The sim could have you a certain distance off and do a hand
over start like those in
the Nascar heat demo.
Also, add the feature to put in a ghost car of either the ideal corner/start
or to save one of your better
ones.

You know Michael, you're just making the sims we have
now seem really crap ;)

realism of something like GP3 - real drivers don't have that luxury. The
fact that you can push the limits without worrying about killing yourself is
already enough of an advantage over the real drivers.
I was thinking in terms of learning the circuits.
The problem is that for me, it's a part time job, unlike the pros.
Anything to make the learning experience a bit easier would be welcome.
It's been a while since I looked at the first ubisoft F1 title, but this had
a
ghost car feature that I liked quite a lot.
I don't know what the EA title offers as I don't have it.

Actually, I like this idea.
To practice corners which I am having difficulty with, I usually drive
through them, stop, turn around, head back, turn around again and go
through them again. I continue to do this until I get the hang of the
racing line for that corner. It's not what I could call a practical
solution, but it is important to learn corners, and there's little
point in driving the entire circuit if you're having problems with
just one corner.
Now, some might say that this shouldn't be included in simulators
because real life F1 drivers don't have the same luxury. But, on the
same note, F1 sims aren't supposed to be entirely realistic. The
option to control weather conditions, the number of opponents,
starting positions, the teams we race and difficulty levels are all
something which we can enjoy the control of. To make simulators MORE
realistic, we would have to remove those options. How bland would that
be?
Modern simulators can simulate real world environments and conditions
in frighteningly realistic ways, but there's no need for it to reach a
point where it becomes so realistic that it actually becomes boring.
We also don't have to face the life threatening dangers of crashing.

F1RS & MGPRS2 both had ghost cars, but unfortunately they were just
too slow, and you sound found yourself overtaking them, even without
pushing at it.
The replay function in F1WGP allows you to jump into a replay at any
point, which pretty much accomplishes what you're suggesting. GREAT
feature, IMO -- with the new patches, F1WGP is much more playable, too,
so it's worth buying if you can find it cheap.

Before you buy.
I will be really really disappointed if WSC does not have a full-featured
ghost car option. I posted about it on highgears forum, more people should
do that.

Real drivers may not have the luxury yet, but I reckon in the "future"
(insert spooky sound here), drivers will have laps fed to their helmet
visors, as in a HUD on a flight sim, while they are doing a practice or
qualifying session, in the form of a ghost car. This will be either be a
ghost car of their own laps, or opponents laps perhaps, so that they'll be
able to see in which sectors of the track they are losing or gaining time.
Just what I reckon anyway.

Hmm, MY ghost cars represented my best lap at the track, so
after some time I had a very HARD time to pass them again...I don't
do better laps all the time.
