Hi GPL racers
Today I reversed the Fontana track, and it is great fun to drive
a big oval clockwise! I just wonder why they do not do that
sometimes in real life, too.
Arto
I believe its because the driver is on the left side of the car.. Inches of
car between driver and wall at 100-200mph isnt good. Ive often wondered why
stock cars for the sake of safety dont have the driver at the center of the
car in the event of driver side impact. Going counterclockwise makes this
sort of accident less likely. Im sure there are other reasons too.

Stock cars are front engine Rear wheel drive machines, If the driver
were int he center he's be straddling the Transmission. Formula cars
have rear engine, and GT Sports cars are front wheel drive. I wont say
that "The cars are supposed to represent real stock cars" because
Obviuosly this concept got lost along the way. However I dont think it
would be any safer for a driver if he were to have front impact hard
enough to push the transmission back through the floorpan, if he were
straddling it. I've never heard of this happening yet in a race car
(although I would say it probably has) but I have seen it first hand
with a street car.

Well, I drive a GPL car... :-)
And aren't CART cars also symmetric in this sense?
Arto
I was referring to stock cars.
:)
