NCTS Sim at Phoenix

If any of you fellow RASers plan to attend the NASCAR event at Phoenix next weekend, check out the sim truck at the Craftsman display on the vendors midway. They have taken an NCTS truck and fitted it with an ECCI controller, a monitor on the dash and a second monitor outside so the waiting crowd can watch your race. The races are short and you start 20th in a 20 truck field, but the AI is only set to 87%, so any accomplished sim racer should be able to do ok. Unfortunately at Fontana, they were using their stock short track setup on the superspeedway and I didn't figure out the draft soon enough, so I kept getting beat to the line on the last lap (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!). I only saw one kid beat the AI trucks, he drafted the leader until turn 3 of the last lap and just beat Hornaday at the line. It's worth waiting in line just to try out the ECCI controller. Go early, take Todd some Krispy Kreme donuts and he might be willing to give you a few extra runs<g>. -- don New GPL Programs for the Converted Tracks: http://www.ianparker.co.uk/gpl/bapom/ You have the right to remain silent. I saw this too at the Fontana NCTS race. It was at a couple different vendor booths. I didn't feel like waiting in line though :) I noticed on the screen it said Nascar 3 1999 edition. I just talked to my buddy that runs the Craftsman display, they will not be at the track after all. Phoenix demanded 30K for the space! Sears told them to pound sand. The sim truck will be at the Scottsdale mall for the weekend. He gave me a little more info about the sim configuration. The truck was built by a company owned by the Labonte brothers in North Carolina. They're running N99 in Win98 on a PIII 550 with a V3 2000 and the ECCI controller. The computer has a security code on it which will not allow them to change the configuration of the sim at all, except to change the AI strength and the tracks. Give it a try if you're in the neighborhood, it's a pretty cool rig. Too bad they couldn't have done something similar with their Reynard Champ Car. -- don New GPL Programs for the Converted Tracks: http://www.ianparker.co.uk/gpl/bapom/ You have the right to remain silent.
