Check for a irq conflict or sharing between the nic and your vid or sound. In article <DCxL5.8735$[email hidden]>, "Andy" <[email hidden]> wrote: > Hi > > I have just installed a Realtech RTL8029 NIC and now everytime I playGPL it

Andy, this may be completely unrelated, but I notice you have a V3. I also have a V3 and I notice the video card will lock up when all details are maxxed at 1600 x 1200. I can run it fine at 1280 x 1024 with the detail bias slider at 50%, but get video lockups when the slider is pushed right to 100%. To run everything maxxed with slider at 100% I have to drop to 1024 x 768. BTW, this is only true in races with other cars on the road, not in training. If you think your lockups are video lockups (you see color distortion before the lockup or you can still hear the sounds of the game but the video is frozen) and not system lockups, try adjusting your resolution and detail settings. Also make sure you have the specific drivers for your monitor and not just generic plug & play drivers. Generic drivers may not allow the correct resolution/refresh settings for your particular hardware. Might be unrelated, but may also be worth looking into. -- Chris "Ambulater" Lee "Don't Bother Running.........You'll Just Die Tired." Try changing your NIC drivers. Make sure they are the exact ones that come with the NIC. I've found Realtek to be really unreliable drivers... Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I have fixed the problem now by using the latest Realtech drivers rather that the standard Win98 ones that the card installed. Yeah, you've found the infamous Realtek Win98 driver issue - this bug is one of the major reasons that Microsoft released Win98 Second Edition.
