Hi ! Yesterday night i tried to play online for the second time and i've got severals problems . First i give you my config if it could help : Athlon 600 128Mo GeForce DDR 32 GPL 1.2 with Discofix WinVROC 2.1 MS FF WHeel PCI Modem 56ko ( not a win-modem ) ( configured with Alison Faq GPL Online ) i'm connecting internet through free providers : ( liberty surf, free surf, M6Net, Oreka ). I rarely managed to finish a race, i've always been disconnected before end : i've got the race result with %1, %2 , etc.. instead of drivers names. I'm never been disconnected durring practice/qualif sessions I'm often been disconnected when server switch from practice/qualif to race status :o( I'v manage only 2 times to race , and only 1 time to finish the race without been disconnected. I think that it's because of poor quality of providers I used but i'm not sure. Help please regards, -- Sebastien Tixier Suzuki 650 SVS blue 2000 (MagicFr) GPLRank handicap -28.66 Game Developer personal : http://magicfr.multimania.com company : http://www.eden-studios.fr

Did you press Alt+L while connected (and chat turned off)? It shows you the actual latency. If so, what figures did you see? What goes on in the Quality bar on your screen when you're driving? It would help if you told us, as the rest seems OK. Although you have to keep in mind that even a 600 CPU can easily be overtaxed by GPL + a bad connection. Turn down most of the graphics, set 640x480, details to 25%, get rid of the special effects and see if that keeps you connected. If so, you can add graphics until you find out what the limits of your connection are. Good luck, Leo

hmmm, i must press Alt+L in VROC or GPL ? i think it's GPL... the graphics bar are the thing in top right of the screens ? What do they mean ? > It would help if you told us, as the rest seems OK. Well, i strange that it's not during driving that i am disconnected ... so i don't see where graphics are involved ? Anyway i'll try this too Thanks for help ! regards, -- Sebastien Tixier Suzuki 650 SVS blue 2000 (MagicFr) GPLRank handicap -28.66 Game Developer personal : http://magicfr.multimania.com company : http://www.eden-studios.fr

Then you turn on 'chat' again, and you'll see the latency and the quality of your connection displayed in red in the notebook. Something like 150/.985 (that's good). > the graphics bar > are the thing in top right of the screens ? What do they mean ? From the 1.2 readme: ------ The bar graphs are as follows... (L) Instantaneous latency from 0.0 seconds (the bar is empty) to 1.0 seconds (the bar is full height). This is the amount of time that it takes for a message to go from the server, to your client, and back to the server. Note that Alt-L shows average latency, not instantaneous latency. (Q) Quality from 100% (the bar is empty) to 0% (the bar is full height). The more data that is lost or garbled during transmission from the server to you, the lower the quality of your connection, and the higher this bar will go. (S) The time skew (difference) between your GPL client and the server. If your current time is behind where you expect the server to be, this bar will be below center. If it is at the bottom, then you believe that you are 1.5 seconds (or more) behind the server. If your current time is ahead of where you expect the server to be, it will be above center. If it is at the top, then you believe that you are 1.5 seconds (or more) ahead of the server. If the bar reaches the top or bottom, then your client will resynchronize itself with the server (it will smash its clock). ------ There's a lot more of this in the actual readme file. So check it out. Bye, Leo
