I've been lurking for a while and have found lots of great
information. Thanks for making this such an interesting and useful
community.
I am wondering who among us has actually raced on real tracks with
real cars/karts.
I've raced sprint karts and, most recently, a super late model on
asphalt short tracks (3/8ths mile). I've actually been pretty
impressed with the realism of the Papyrus sims . . . to the point that
they have actually reduced my (expensive) practice time because they
simulated real car/track conditions so well.
Anyone else?

Yep, I'll echo that. GPL and HN have helped with my karting, GPL with
the gearbox kart and HN with the direct drive Pro kart.
GP3 didn't help at all...too much aerodynamic grip in to help with the
kind of racing I do.
Cheers

A surprising number, I think (not me, though...). The last person I raced
GPL against who is "The real thing" was Rob Swindells, but there are
quite a few others, I believe.

I used to race enduro karts (most people probably don't even know what they
are) and street bikes (350 & 400cc), and sports cars with the local motor
club in auto-cross and rallies. Of course, that was back in the '70s ;)
On the old road coarse at what is now N.H. International Speedway, an enduro
kart held the track record for a long time.

I've raced a shifter kart at NHIS. Great track in a shifter kart. Not too
tight, not too open. I would say that GPL helped me out in my old lay down
enduro. It helped me smooth out my style and gave me a second advantage at
Daytona. I would say it helped for my shifter just because the GPL car is
so unstable and so you learn how to save a car/kart when you get in trouble.

GPL both helped but having a crew with 15 years experiance and a past record
of drivers with wins and lots of top 5s helped the most. Of course they
remind me that the car is setup so well that a monkey could drive it <g>.
And to think they like me.

supersport this year, but now have a superbike and are testing for next
season. GPL is great, and it helps me impress mates on the street :). In
terms of bike sims tho, no bike sim is anywhere near realistic, not even
slightly close. The closest maybee GP500 but that would be about as
realistic as say something like F1RS or need for speed. Bikes are going to
be heaps harder to model as good as what GPL has done for cars, but thats
not to say that nobody should try :)

Does rubber-gas-and-ICE count?
See http://www.crosswinds.net/~icerace/
There are a lot of similarities to GPL in iceracing.
