I think the patch has definitely improved GP3, but I don't
think any praise should go to Hasbro.
If a company releases a substandard product and then takes
steps to improve it, it's hardly cause to crow about
how good they are.
Hasbro should've put more thought and effort into development
in the first place.
Having said that, I'm happy that GP3 is now playable :)

Should Hasbro be praised for the GP3 patch?
After the Grand Prix 3 patch, a user said Hasbro deserved no credit for fixing an unfinished product, while Bruce Kennewell argued that complaining both before and after a patch was unfair. Francois Menard blamed Geoff Crammond's ageing assembler code for the lack of multiplayer. Others praised the patched wet-weather racing.

And of course the complainers themselves always produce perfect work in
their own careers, they meet every deadline, they satisfy everyone they deal
with, they anticipate every need of their clients, they sell their services
for 50% of the market rate, they are more innovative than their competitors,
they work 27 hours per day, their shoes shine, and their shit doesn't smell.

Whatever the ammount of patch GP3 has it will always be unfinished.
Until Geoff Crammond gets out of his lazy arse that is sitting on a pile of
cash and scrap his assembler code, of course.

Good point. I came to GP3 from playing F1GP on the Amiga, having never
played GP2, and it's practically the same game only with nicer graphics.
Writing in it assembly code 10 years ago was great coz it made the game
faster, but now it's just ridiculous. everything including the menus is laid
out exactly the same as GP1. I still love playing it, but it could be a hell
of a lot better if they got some new guys in to mess around with it. Just
look at the improvements made from Quake 2 to Quake 3 Arena. Why can't they
do the same for GPx?

Having a piss poor core engine is not a "small" bug. There is a major
problem with Gp3 that lies deep down in it's roots, we know all what it
is...
It's the thing that makes multiplayer racing impossible, the thing that
makes takes the fun out of GP3. It's the thing many people thought they
would scratch out after Hasbro lied to us into thinking GP2.5 was in
development for 4 years.

Same menus, even the same errors in their bloody manual! Incredible what

I did a race at Melbourne
on Ace last night where it started dry, then by mid-race I had to go for
Monsoon tires! The rain kept pelting down and the puddles on the track got
larger and larger. Lap times blew out to 1:55 or so. It started to to dry
out towards the end of the race and the tire strategy the AI cars used was
very sensible and realistic - huge improvement with the patch. I finished
10th (mainly due to my stupid pit strategy) but it was some of the best fun
I've ever had with a racing game.
Andrew
oh btw, the wet weather handling seems much improved too.

Well, with all due respect I think you're wrong.
It's one thing to criticise Hasbro for releasing a severely
unfinished product - and quite another when you refuse to
acknowledge their acceptance of this point by releasing a patch
to correct the most egregious errors.
Give them credit for listening to their buyers, at least. They
never have done before...

Would rather have the patch than not, thank you.

A release that simply adds enhancements is NOT, strictly-speaking, a
"patch".
A patch is a band-aid. That's where the term came from originally;
something wasn't right so a band-aid was applied. That's what a patch is.
Anything else is an upgrade.

Any improvement is welcome of course, but patched GP3 still doesn't have the
physics or graphics to pull me away from GPL for more than the odd hour or
