Anyone tried the demo yet? Does it look like another serious Rally
sim, or a CMR-type game?
I've been hooked on rallying since Mobil 1 RC, and would love another
game with 20+ mile stages...

Before you buy.
There are already some discussion at Sim Racing News forum for Pro Rally
2001. Unfortunately, from the post, the game seems to be tailored toward
arcade instead of simulation. However, it is only a demo version, things
may change.

Codemasters, the demo however doesnt seem to support Sterring wheels
of joysticks even though the option is there, I can find no way for it
to accept my stick imputs it allways comes up as AX1.

Not a chance. I've just been playing with the early beta preview version of
CMR2 and the demo of PR2001, and CMR2 just completely annihialates it in
every way. Can't say I was too impressed with this Ubisoft offering, from
what's on display (it hasn't really changed much from the ECTS demo I tried
either).

Is this early beta preview version available to say, me? I would be very
interested in giving it a spin :-)

Errr....no. I don't do piracy I'm afraid.
But even if I did, I couldn't - the press beta comes with a BetaLok
mechanism whereby you need a special key CD sent to each gaming press
organisation in order to start it up. As a freelancer I've been lucky this
time to have had our CD sent out for a few days, but it's still annoying
because I soon have to send it back which means I don't get to play it any
more (well, not until we get the release version). First time I've seen it
used, but apparently it's becoming more common these days (presumably
because some media people leak the betas out).

My bad, I wasn't implicating piracy since beta previews aren't usually
charged for. Please accept my apology.

Can't tell. Tried various video drivers and all I get is cockpit
anitmations, no outside graphics just a yellow color. the options make it
look more arcade-like and less simulation however.

Sorry - I misinterpreted you. No problem.
Shame you don't live in Oxford, otherwise you could have popped by and had a
play. :-)

Enabling fog-table emulation in my driver fixed the problem. Seems
like an arcade game for sure.
