Hi all,
Sometime ago, I posted the question of what would be the best way to back up
one's current installation of GPL, so that, in the event of a HDD crash, an
upgrade or reformatting, etc., you wouldn't have to hunt around for all your
patches, mods, profiles, etc. Someone suggested I just copy my entire
sierra\gpl\ directory to CD-R, and then copy it back to the HDD...however,
do you need a registry program or something that would make the necessary
registry changes for the game to work (like they do for some warez games)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...I thought I'd do it to CDR-W to be
able to keep making a back-up of GPL everytime I hit upon a configuration I
like. Perhaps one the most industrious RAS readers can develop an app to do
just this...
Thanks again,
L.S.
You don't really need to worry about registry settings. If you need to do a
reinstall from scratch just install GPL from the original CD (this will
establish the necessary registry settings) then copy your backed-up files
into the GPL directory.

I've copied my GPL installation to at least two different machines without
running the install or anything - no problems.

It's really simple, just backup your sierra\gpl map to a CD, and when
you have to reinstall everything, just do a fresh install of the
original GPL cd and copy your sierra\gpl map over the fresh installed
sierra\gpl map.
Thanks for reminding me to make a backup of my sierra\gpl map by the
way, it would go crazy if I had to reinstalled all those patches and
graphic updates... gonna backup right away now.. :)
