Jay,
The problem can occur with any car in the PATCH directory, not just the
car you buy or race with. The only real solution I can find is not a
very time-saving one...
Either you'll have to move the cars out and check the game as you add
one, or check the VRLs of each MAS with WinHex (each MAS has about
twelve VRLs)...
I only have 24 cars (ALMS cars), so it's pretty easy for me to figure
out when a car's screwy, but with SP3, you have quite a task, unless
someone knows off-hand if a car caused them problems...

Well as a car maker, I can tell you that the problem is a mismapped VRL
file. VRLs (and the BMPs for the cars) are in the MAS files of the cars,
and you'll need MASpuce to extract the VRLs. Basically the game finds
the VRLs (which contain the BMPs) and then goes to look for the BMP. If
it doesn't find the BMP, then it'll dump you out, saying it can't find
(whatever the name of the file is) and reporting a cube error.
If another car uses the same BMP file, and BOTH cars come up, then no
harm no foul because the game can find at least one copy of the BMP
somewhere. If two cars share a BMP filename, and only one comes up, then
it's a crap shoot. If it's the car that is mapped correctly, then the
game is cool with it. If it's the car with a mismapped VRL, and the
correctly mapped car isn't also selected by the game to run in your
particular race, then it will dump you out.
So the problem is a car in your PATCH directory. The only real solution
is to take the cars out and add 'em one at a time until you find the
problem one.
I thougt the sporadic cube was in Diablo 2!
Andi.

I've had SCGT for sometime now, and have added lots of cars, tracks, sounds,
etc, etc.... So I'm not sure which one was the culprit but...
When I attempt to go practice or race at a circuit, usually one that came
with the game, during the circuit loading screen I get a "Cube Error!"
stating that there was an error opening object file d:\Sports Car
GT\GCVFSHAD.VRL. (sometimes the filenames vary a bit)
I hit ok, to close that error screen, and then get an "Error loading scene
file" message.
I've searched for the .VRL file but it's not on the CD nor on my hard drive,
so it must be some sort of compressed file that's opened up when the track
loads?
Now the really odd thing is that sometimes it happens, and sometimes it
doesn't! It's occurred using both SCGT standard cars, as well as add-on cars
like the open top WSC cars. Sometimes I can reboot the PC and then use the
same car at the same track and it comes up just fine, then while still in
the game, if I try to race at a different track, boom... There's that
f%&king error again!
I've tried reinstalling from scratch, then adding the various cars and
tracks I've been using but to no avail.... I'm sure it's not my system, as
it's a PIII 933Mhz w/128meg of 133RAM and a GeForce2GTS 64 meg video card,
and lots of free drive space (like 30 megs free).
Any ideas??? I'm stumped and am getting frustrated to the point of just
chucking the whole game and doing something else... But with all the ALMS
action on the TV lately, I get the itch to run some sporty cars....
Thanks in advance for the help!

It might be a missing VRl for one of the cars in the patch folder. That
usually doe it and well what happens is when the car comes up as AI it
dumps the game. You might take a look at cars recently downloaded and see
if removing one of them solves the problem

Tim (and David),
You mention a mismatched VRL & BMP file in my PATCH directory... Would this
only be for cars that I have selected to buy in Career mode? Or... For ANY
car in the PATCH directory???
I've recently added the 47meg cars file from the SP3 patch which adds the
155 cars but doesn't blow away any of the original cars that come with the
game, nor does it replace the GTQ class which allows you to add other
patches like the F1 season, instead...
I have noticed that there are a few duplicate cars with this 155 car patch
in the GT1 division, and one of the Ferrari 333SP's has an incorrect visual
car file (when you click on it to buy it, it displays some other type of car
rather than the 333SP) so I'm not sure if this is the culprit or not...
I don't suppose there is any way to tell which car is the problem one?

I had the same problem with SP3 (cars-only install). I'm not an expert, but
if you know the names of the files you are after, Readmas is an quick-and-easy
tool to check the contents of a MAS. For deeper work you might try Maspuce and
unix-like command-line tools like "strings" (find only text strings from a
binary file) and "grep" (search text strings from a bunch of text files).
Reading a help file about making stand-alone cars for SCGT also helps - it's
easier to debug the files if you know what to search. If you really want get
into things, check out http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/mjkhirvo/SA_tut.html and the
utility SCGTFN also available there.
If I remember right, there were several non-standalones in SP3, maybe the C5
Corvettes? What class (GTQ,GT3,GT2,GT1) are you racing in when you get the cube
error? The offending car is one from that class.

to 800*600 it solved the problems I was having.
