Hi guys
Upgraded my processor at the weekend from a celeron 450
to a celleron 566 overclocked to 700. I was expecting a big
improvement but Im getting the same
FPS in GPL after the upgrade. Whats the story?? Is gpl FPS capped
or something or is there a bottleneck in my system. I have a voodoo2
Thanks..

The maximum fps you can get in GPL is 36. You should be able to get
that with your system running at 800x600 with some detail switched
off. You certainly should notice some improvement in the conistency of
your framerate and also be able to increase detail slightly.
Cheers

Tried this test and did see a drop at the start with my new processor
which did disapoint me, thats why I asked if GPL was capped.

The Counter is capped at 36fps, but GPL can go higher in fps. Just to make
you envious ;-), i got an new 'puter last week with an 1 ghz Athlon and
Voodoo 5 ( 36fps everywhere and anytime, expect for the start at Goodwood,
thats with 1024x768, complete field with 3D Wheels and 2xFSAA Anti
Aliasing ) and GPL "feels" like much higher Framerates with my new Computer,
altough the counter says 36.
Unfotunately, still cannot get that 1:19er in Kyalami with my new rig...
I think, the bottle neck is the Voodoo 2 in your System. Maybe you can get
an Voodoo 3 cheap ?

GPL has a 36 fps cap. I was able to maintain that frame rate but
cutting back on graphics and using a resolution of 800x600. But when I up
graded to a AMD K7-800 and a Voodoo5 5500 AGP ( with 2xFSAA), I now can run
GPL with all graphics and options maxed out and at a resolution of 1024x768.
Higher resolutions work just fine, but I can't read the online chat.

What FPS are you getting and under what conditions? It doesn't need a fast
PC to get the full 37 fps when you're the only car on the track. A better
test of performance in GPL is to start a full grid AI race at the back of
the grid and see how the numbers look before and after the flag drops
(in-car view, graphics options on full).
If you didn't used to get 36/37 fps in practice, and you still don't after
the upgrade then the V2 could be the problem.

Did you disable vsync on your video card? That might be a reason for
some of the larger drops in FPS performance.

Do you know there's a patch to increase the font size?
It's at the pits
http://www.theuspits.com/owheel/gpl/index.html
in the utilities section and is called Hi-Res Chat Fonts.

Maybe I just have good eyes. I've seen a lot of people complain about the
font size in high res. I didn't even know there was a problem until people
started complaining about it.
Personally I wish people would just shut the the hell up during a race. Even
on the grid, but perhaps that's just me again.
Joel, go to The Pits for a new Hi Res font

V3. Try at least one of those, the V3 3000 are quite cheap now.
