Obviously there is no easy way to determine this as there are no F2/F3
replays with the original program. I would say that +100 would be fair for
F2 and +250 for f3. Anyone have any ideas how we could determine this any
better?

Actually I think +300 is more realistic for F3.

Well, I had an F3 GPL Rank of 252.X, all Brabham times, all
rather quick. I don't do much F2, but the F3 driver I was
nose to tail with for most of a season, Alan Orton, has a
F2 rank of 74.64. However very few of his times are in the
Brabham so I'm fairly certain he could better that by quite
a bit if he put his mind to it.
Someone like Gary Simpson probably has an F3 rank just
under 250 and a F2 rank of 50, both of which should
probably be considered the lower bound.
Alison Hine has a F2 Rank of 85.35 so I would consider that
to be a 'fair' number since she is representative of the times
the Papyrus developers and testers are capable of running.
Of course, that is after two years of additional practice though.
A 'fair' F3 time is a bit more difficult to arrive at, but 275
to 280 sounds about right for an all Brabham set.

One good way is to look at the rankings of the best F2 and F3 drivers. I
personally don't feel the need for an alternate GPLrank benchmark, but
simply compare my times against other drivers in my chosen "field", F2.
GPLrank's search facility will allow you to look for drivers with "F2" or
"F3" in their name, and view their info, or add them to your buddy list for
future comparisons.
Chris Noto.
If you look at the F1 rankings about 1/3 of the drivers are below the papy
benchmark. Applying the same to the F2 and F3 rankings gives about +110 for F2
and about +318 for the F3. (happy now Ray ;-). I wouldn't use the faster F2 and
F3 drivers as a benchmark, it'd be like trying to better Greger Huttu's times
in F1.

Here are a few samples from GPLRank, where the driver has
all 3 formula registered, in no particular order.
266/74/-40
335/99/-8
331/197/27
328/117/23
357/138/61
321/85/1
299/68/-15
Looking at the above 270-280 is a little high as a "benchmark" for F3
(Obviously George was a real F3 Hotshoe!) although if you take F3
seriously it's as achievable I think as 0.0 in F1 and 85 in F2.

I came across that number by the following calculation:
250 + 85 * (140/400) = 279.75
In other words, add to the best F3 time the best F1 time
(actually 0 - the best F1 time) multiplied by a scaling factor
based solely off of class horsepower. The theory being
that the less horsepower a class has available the 'easier'
it should be to achieve maximum results within that class.
So for F2 it would be:
32 + 85 * (270/400) = 89.375
The '32' comes from Gary Simpson who was kind enough
to upload his F2 times to GPL Rank (sorry for selling you
short by 18 seconds, you've obviously hit your stride of
late).

I always said Gary was an alien :) +32.09 as an F2 rank is just ridiculous.

Why doesn't Alison or any of the Papy clan upload their F3 times so we can
se what we're up against? I think she put in some serious time in the F3's
according to her website. My guess would be in the 290ish range.

George,
I was just trying to give some encouragement to those
330+ guys :-)
It's difficult to come to any conclusions from my list as
you don't know how serious those guys are about their
various F1/2/3 PBs
Gary strike me as being pretty serious (god help us all
if he's not) so he'd be -60 to the F1 benchmark, -57 to
the F2 benchmark and -29 to the F3 benchmark.
That being so, the F3 benchmark of 279 does look a
bit out of synch IMO.
Any thoughts from other F1/2/3 runner out there?
