If you have a powerful machine, then Rally Championship provides
beautiful graphics. Gamplay is solid too; lots of fun.

What would be the best rally sim that supports wheel and pedals?
Colin McRae Rally is HUGE fun, but from what I've heard, Rally Masters might
be slightly more realistic, but very difficult to control.
EA's Mobil 1 Rally Championship. You can't go wrong with this title.
Magically beautiful in stereoscopic mode. Best depth perception. All
3D objects. Fun to drive. This is the equivalent of Jane's WW2F of
Rally games.

Yup, Andrew's posting is like the way I'd put it too... RM is more
polished, handling seems sorta realistic, but ...weird, erratic
sometimes. I also think things are canned. Got rid of it before the
3.0 patch, though, I heard some handling issues were addressed.
CMR is great great rally fun, but it hasn't aged as well as for
example GPL has. I fired it up a couple of weeks ago, and was appalled
over the graphics... The only real viable candidate for FSAA I've had
so far. That made miracles for that game, but still, it looked nothing
near RM(or RC2000).
I haven't mentioned Rally Championship, because I really really don't
like or care for that game. Some very outspoken people(or rather one
particular, hehe;) don't agree with this, but the physics is way
off(to my perception). So way off that it cancel out the good points
it has. The horrible steering doesn't help one bit either. But that's
just me. Maybe someone who's come to terms with those flaws can push
that game better.
I'm suggesting waiting for CMR2, for what it's worth. I know I am,
eagerly.

Yep, if you go for the most realistic (yet it's still not realistic
imho :) rallygame, go for Rally Championship 2000.
Download the latest patch, it improves the game greatly.
Personally I didn't like Rally Masters.

The pinnacle of open systems is: when moving from vendor to vendor, the
design flaws stay the same.

I have a Logitech Wingman Formula (without FF) but I cant steer the car
with it at all....I go off all the time...

Maybe I should try that instead of throwing my LWF out... I will try
that this weekend...:) or ...install a keyboard in my "realworld"
car?..Hmmm :)

I would agree with the assessment of running RC2000/Mobil 1 Rally on a top
flight machine as it looks and handles wonderfully! With the latest patches
it's probably the best Rally game out so far... Only one problem... It's
modeled after the British Mobil One rally, so you won't have the variety of
stages that you find in CMR or Rally Masters.
As for Rally Masters... Some of the stages are graphically VERY VERY
impressive, others are just so, so... It's like they created some stages a
year after the first ones were designed perhaps?
It's handling can be very frustrating, too twitchy and nervous, however if
you increase the "range", "curve" and "scale" in the game controller menu,
when you select the option/axis for steering, and give it a bit of
"deadzone" it improves the game dramatically!!!! Almost like a whole new
sim!
The patch that came out doesn't seem to do squat! It still has an issue with
FPS surging, in fact when on the gas for an extended period the co-drivers
voice goes up an octave!!!!!! Anyone else notice this???
Back to steering setups.... The defaults for my LWFF were 128 for all three
settings, I played around with them and found that by setting the "range" to
180, the "curve" to 140 and the "scale" to 180" and using a 7-8% deadzone
it's much more drive-able!
I'd love to hear feedback from others who have experimented with Rally
Masters controller and car setup, settings in an effort to make the car more
friendly to drive.
An older game, Colin McRae Rally is still a lot of fun, I loved the way CMR
handles, in fact I still fire it up from time to time and yes FSAA improves
it a ton, but the way you can use your handbrake, foot brake and throttle to
steer the car is a blast... I wish Rally Masters was this friendly! But I
have found that in Rally masters I rarely need to use the foot brake, with
the above settings just lifting off the throttle in the corners then getting
back on the gas well let you steer just fine...
I downloaded the Pro Rally 2001 demo but can't get it to work, so we'll see
when the full game comes out, and I can't wait to see CMR 2, perhaps in time
for Christmas???
Anyway hope this helps in making a decision, and again... Any feedback on
Rally Masters would be welcomed!

Kind of like Mosport in GPL. It's downright ugly compared to the other
tracks.

Having rallied (real cars of course) myself I find RC2000 physics
unrealistic and annoying (engine goes "off cam" too easiliy meaning
too many gear changesand braking distances are way too short)
CMR is better for ease of driving but feel is a little disconnected.
Rally Masters - I find the closest to the real thing but i would agree
with others here that there can be the odd annoying trait. Overall I
probably spent most time on CMR and least time on RC2000 but CMR seems
dated now - i would wait for CMR2. I'm hoping they don't just do a
graphics job on it...
