I tracked the the Windows equivalent down. It is a file named "hosts"
(no extension name) in the \windows directory. Microsoft includes a sample
file named "hosts.sam" in the \windows directory.
I copied the file "hosts.sam" to one named "hosts." (that's right,
"hosts.", no file extension) and then added the line:
"216.200.107.162 gplrank.ringlord.com"
to the bottom of "hosts", saved to disk, and get through fine now to
GPLrank.
All the best,
Chris.

This works for me also. I think ringlord still has something set up
wrong.

I created the hosts file. I find that my AOL browser(IE) won't findthe site,
but my separate install of IE(when I'm using AOL as my ISP) works just fine.
Weird...

Ach Eldred,
you got your spelling all wrong again!!!!
it's W-I-N-D-O-W-S,
not W-E-I-R-D
broken by design, that's all. Hopeless mess of DNS intertwined
with WINS, both in a non-standard way and un-fixable. ;-)
Cheers,
Uwe
