SSTC2 - yah or nah?

21 posts by 9 people · 12 Nov 2000 02:11 UTC - 14 Nov 2000 19:13 UTC

Is Swedish Touring Car Championship 2 better than TOCA 2?

Users compared the STCC2 demo with TOCA 2, praising its close racing but criticising force feedback, cockpit gauges, weak damage and easy AI. A dispute arose between a TOCA 2 online racer and a poster who called TOCA 2 unrealistic but would not give lap times. Others claimed STCC2 had non-removable driving aids to equalise wheel and keyboard users.

So is this better than TOCA2? I got the demo and really like the 'tightness' of racing similar to Toca but my Logitech FF joystick doesn't work well with it. The centering spring force is WAY too stiff even though its totally OFF in the controller properties. The FF efx aren't very good either. Its a shame too cause this game looks and seems to play real nice.

YAY!!!!! I can't get it to work with my Thrustmaster Nascar Pro Digital wheel though :(

I still await your answer Mr Richard Walker....or maybe you are ignoring me..? As a refresher for you,I asked for some best lap times on Toca 2 from you.. Silverstone and Oulton are good benchmarks. So,if you could reply,i would appreciate it. Morgan Boof "Richard Walker" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:NrxP5.11704$[email hidden]...

Problem: I don't 'do' laptimes. I get no pleasure from zooming around the tracks as fast as I can - two reasons: 1. It's not *racing*. I want to be fighting for position! 2. TOCA 2 is *massively* unrealistic. The cars don't behave anything like front-wheel-drive 1000kg beasties, and they have about four times too much grip! Oh, and to make it a little more realistic, I used CTFJ to alter the throttle/brake range from my pedals. I would set about 80% on the throttle and 40% on the brake. This meant I didn't accelerate and brake so quickly (a bit more realistic) and it made the game more challenging to *race*. I guess this doesn't answer your question, though, does it?

:-) No, but don't you see what I mean? There are 'hotlappers', and there are 'racers'. I'd rather be in the latter camp. Richard.

Richard....my point is that I have raced Toca 2 online with the World's best for 9 months.....I became one of them...and i also tried hot lapping to compare myself in that way too....but your words that the game is easy do grate a little mate. How do you judge if a game is easy or not.....is GPL easy to Greger Huttu....? I think not... Is Toca 2 easy to Richard Walker...? I think not....your limits are to my mind lower than the car's and if you were really good/fast at Toca 2 you would not be so dismissive of the game. You say you like 'racing' Toca 2...you mean AI cars or online against other humans..? And if I may ask,how long did you play Toca 2 for..? Nah: - If you are black-flagged in the last lap, you are not disqualified! - We'll probably have to wait for the first patch to improve AI. After a couple of tries I could win both heats with maximised AI, starting at the back of the grid. It's way too easy. Yah: - Collisions with AI cars improved a lot compared to STCC 1. Now you can actually push back. - More visible damage BTW: I am only able to use the Camaro in time atack. How do I race it?

The AI. I've never played games online, because I had a pay-by-the-second Internet connection. However, now I have ntlworld (like yourself!), I can connect for as long as I like, and I would like to try on-line playing. Are their servers in the UK for TOCA2? When do people play? Is there a web site? > And if I may ask,how long did you play Toca 2 for..? Erm... I bought it when it first came out for the PlayStation, then bought the PC version a while later (when I got my games PC). Richard.

A broken front splitter, for example, should be a disaster! > BTW: I am only able to use the Camaro in time atack. How do I race it? I can't, so I assume it's not possible. Richard.

Online play has been very popular for 2 years, there have been competitions and tourneys throughout. Understandably with the game getting older, popularity has dropped but still a healthy online community exists. All online racers use ICQ and arrange races that way. Also the official Codemasters site has its great Toca Chatroom where drivers meet and arrange races. There are also a few great web sites for competitions, hot laps and other great interesting stuff. Its all here for you if you want to pit yourself against humans. Morgan

How many drivers does Toca2 support? Is the racing mainly head to head or can you actually get a field of online drivers? and do you still have to turn off all the graphics to get the best times? dave henrie "Morgan Boof" <[email hidden]> wrote in message

I first thought there was no damage...but I did manage to crush the front splitter, and had some difficulty getting back around. Front end damage was visible in the replay and I noticed a decided lack of grip after punching the wall. But I think you are right, the damage model is NOT sensitive enough. and...after watching many many touring car events, I have to ask, does ANY touring sim let you knock the mirrors off the cars??? dave henrie "Richard Walker" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:xyYP5.14781$[email hidden]... > "Alt" <@nee.nl> wrote in message news:8uopcq$gef4$[email hidden]... > > Nah: > > > > - If you are black-flagged in the last lap, you are not disqualified! >

Toca 2 supports 8 drivers online and if all have decent connections its fine. If any of the group have a poor connection best to stick to 6 as a max. Online play is not affected by graphics, but should you want to hot lap ,low graphics gain you the 'odd' tenth or hundredth.(wow) Morgan "Dave Henrie" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:Dq4Q5.21186$[email hidden]... > How many drivers does Toca2 support? TOCA1 on the playstation had removable door mirrors. I can't remember if TOCA2 did or not. Did they not implement that on the PC versions? Kev
Acually, the pogrammers of STCC2 made the physics as real as possible, then they added helps (wich cant be turned of) so that the drivers with a wheel wouldnt get any advantage over those with a keyboard(!) For the purpose of making the online ranking as fair as possible.... Ah! I didn't actually realise that TOCA2 could be played on-line! Now you've got me wanting to dig the CD out and start practising! Then again... who needs practice? I'll just turn up! :-) Richard.

(e.g. F7 for traction control) It's a pathetic excuse anyway, since DICE could just alter the multiplayer lobby/game-room code to show if each player is using a digital or analogue controller! That would be *so* easy!!! Richard.
