I think this has been mentioned before, but I just got around to reading your review of the Microsoft Sidewinder Strategic Commander. This sounds like an IDEAL device for sim racing! I have been using the Game Commander 2 software, but I have the same problem you did with the Verbal Commander -- in the heat of the moment, the voice-recognition stuff doesn't like the tone of my voice, it seems. Plus, my wife looks at me kind of strange when I sit at my computer with headphones on shouting, "Pit! Pit! PIT!" into a microphone. <G> If you missed it, check out Uncle Goy's review here: http://www.theuspits.com/reviews/stratcom.html Again, great review! -- JB Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

I've been keeping an eye on reviews of this kit, mainly because I'm trying to find out if the physical movements (especially rotation) can be mapped to extra joystick axes ie I want to use it as a throttle and rudder in flight sims :-) I don't think it's possible from what I've seen... besides, if it was it'd take the wind out of the sails of MS's Flight sim kit whenever it finally appears. One thing I would mention is that I have a Suncom joystick which you can programme on the fly in sims/games. This is an incredibly useful feature for those who can never remember why they just quit a game to programme something :-) If the MS hardware works as well as Suncom's (and the Saitek X-36 IIRC) then it's a great feature. LMAO, well, I'm single, but my cat went into "hiding mode" every now and then when I used the Verbal Commander, not to mention all the odd messages I used to send to the poor people I was on track with on TEN at the time :-) > If you missed it, check out Uncle Goy's review here: > > http://www.theuspits.com/reviews/stratcom.html > > Again, great review! I must admit that I didn't try this, for the simple reason that I already use 4 axis on my wheel pedal setup, so it never even occurred to me to give it a try According to the manual you should be able to program this for look left/right in first person shooters, I can't try it just now I'm afraid as I had to return the unit to the shop, it was the last one I had in the shop and a customer wanted it *now*, unfortunately my suppliers don't have them in stock at the moment, so it might work in flight sims as well > One thing I would mention is that I have a Suncom joystick which you can > programme on the fly in sims/games. I didn't actually try that recording function, but according to the manual it looked very simple indeed.....
