Hi all,
Here's the problem with my Nascar Heat:
It works for sometime then suddenly it freezes
while loading. Looking in the log file under windows/temp
there are lots of memory error message. I'm running
it with a GeForce2 Asus V7700 deluxe in stereoscopic.
One would'd thought it should be ok. at 1024x768 res.
When reboot, norton disk doctor gives a warning that
the log file got allocated too little or too much space. WTH ?
I'm at a lost and would appreciate any illumination !!
OT, while running benchmark in option/graphic screen.
it gives me the "lame" remark on poly pushing. How to
improve this poly bandwidth ? TIA.
Peace,
kb
What drivers are you running? I'm suspecting that the log file is hosed on
disk because it was open or begin written to when your machine
hard-crashed. If you could post the heat.log file after a crash, before
running again, there might be some clues; odds are high it can be fixed with
video card and/or motherboard driver updates. However, even a skilled user
can totally screw up an otherwise functional machine when updating drivers,
so be careful.
Getting a "lame" on poly rate with a GeForce2 is quite surprising, I'm
assuming you have at least a 500 MHz machine if you've spent the dough for a
GF2; usually a "lame" rating on a machine that should get "Great" or
"Excellent" means bad drivers or some nasty background process stealing CPU
cycles (Photoshop, Real Jukebox, and Yahoo messenger are known culprits).
Try using ctrl-alt-del after a clean boot to kill off everything besides
Explorer and Systray, and then run; does that improve your rates? My AMD
K6-2 300 w/ Voodoo3 2000 gets at least an "okay" rating, and that's hardly a
speed demon.
BTW, by stereoscopic, do you mean you have LCD glasses or something hooked
up to your card?

Thanks for replying. This problem happens intermittenly and just now
it runs fine again and so the log file is now non revealing. The lame rating
is still there nevertheless. I'll post the log file next time when it
happens
again. (Hope you will still be there reading it :) ). Here's some metric
about
my system from the heat.log file.
54.24.780: texture: supports compressed solid texture
54.26.100: mr: 3D performance: 393 MPix/sec, 1086 KTris/sec
54.26.100: mr: fill rate is GREAT, poly rate is LAME, machine speed is 952
I recall to not having any of the substantial background process running,
maybe
memturbo, Asus driver, Norton shield, Intellimouse. I'll try "enditall" next
time
as well to see.
You are correct. I use LCD glasses that come with the Asus V7700 GF2 and
it's the main reason that I have to use Asus driver since it has built in
support
for its glasses.
BTW, playing NH in stereo is so real . It made me feel grateful to the
experience.
