Okay, it's an old title, but the price was right and I had just watched
Speedvision's GT racing (okay, that should be a good enough excuse :)
). Okay, now that that's out of the way, what all can you *do* with/to
Viper Racing?
So far all I've seen is a few skins for the cars. Any track/shedule
editors out there?
Is Viper Racing made by the same people who did GPL? If so, is it as
realistic?
Andrew
No acually there is not alot of things for this game, exept skins that is.
I do have the extractor to open the 3d files in viper, but I have no
knowledge
in making a 3ds converter :(
A shame really, cause this is a very good foundation for a Sim

It's orientation is a bit diffrerent too. It's designed with a career
mode and 'upgrades' that usually mean an arcade game. Yet it has a very
good feel that leads you to believe it's pretty close to a true sim.
One thing it seems to have is a hard-coded series schedule and race
distances.
Anyone have a good recomendation for a road racing game with a good
interface and relatively fun game?
SCGT was pretty good, it just had a lousey interface.

Made by the same people as Nascar Heat I believe.

lot of the people at MGI did come from Papyrus, but I'm not sure if any
of them were involved with the GPL effort -- I believe they were around
for ICR2/N2 before parting company with Papyrus.
FWIW, Viper Racing does rank right up there with GPL in the physics and
realism department.

Before you buy.
Hey, Wayne -- you still active on CompuServe? I cancelled my
membership a while back -- just not enough going on there. Still doing
GPL online? Drop me a line and let me know what's up!

I had a LOT of fun with Viper, highly recommended. Not gpl physics,
but very good. A good stiff challenge to win at the highest level,
but once you've done it a couple times your about done with it.

some of the folk, probably./... mci, many had been with papy and their
latest is heat. hey you can get viper for less that 10 us these days. it's
fun enough with great frame rates, even with older systems.
rob
I Love Viper Racing, it is still my favorite sim after all this time. The
physics model is almost as rigorous as GPL's, but it is IMHO more fun and
because it is based upon a modern production car it feels better and more
familiar than GPL's cars do. Slides and loss of traction is more predictable
and progressive than in any other sim I have tried. Its biggest flaw is the
lack of a sufficient number of tracks, but the few that it has are beautiful
and diverse. It is simply the best overall. The A.I. is decent but not great,
but I keep coming back to this game.
No, it was made by MGI, the same folks that brought us the recent Nascar
Heat.
With the exception of a few minor gripes, both are very fine simulations.

It's the best 70 Meg I've ever installed on my machine...
hmmmmm, how many and how long are the tracks in viper racing?
Also, does anyone know where to pick a copy up for cheap?
I think OfficeDepot had GPL for around $5, so I wonder if they
have viper racing, and how much it is.
I live in calif, usa, if you havent guessed by now.

Interact in Pasadena CA www.interactcd.com is advertising Viper Racing, used
with box and manual, on their website for $15.00. I've bought many new and
used games from them and have never had a problem.

New GPL Programs for the Converted Tracks:
http://www.ianparker.co.uk/gpl/bapom/
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be
misquoted, then used against you.
Only 8 tracks, but they can be raced in reverse. The lack of tracks is the
only downside of Viper, IMO. This sim would have a LOT more replay value if
there was a track editor. Take SODA for instance. It didn't ship with many
tracks, but you can still download bunches of fan-created tracks. How cool
is that?
The track lengths aren't extreme.. maybe a couple miles... nothing like
Rally Championship. Most are road circuits, but a couple are Nascar-like
modified oval tracks.
I've seen Viper in the bargain bins at Best Buy, and Comp Usa.
