You might also want to take the wheel off and add a small strip of tape
to the flats of the spindle, then re-fit the wheel. This should remove a
great percentage of the play in the wheel.
Mine has very little play. I have the plastic one with a bit of red on it,
usb. Works great with the logitech profiler software, GP 3 and GPL

I enjoy the wheel. But the wheel "wiggle" is a little annoying. Is this
the way its supposed to be (to allow for some play for the force feedback to
work) or should the wheel be a fairly snug fit in its housing?
BTW, though it was advertised on the Justdeals web site as "non-usb" what
arrived has a usb connector which works great.
Thanks in advance
Don
You will get an UPward/downward wobble with a LWFF... like the wheel is loose.
Thats normal.. its a plastic unit.. As long as it works .. I got a yellow NON FF
wheel from Justdeals.com and was very pleased with that company..
QUICK/CHEAP/Packaged nicely

you can also remove the center cap on the wheel itself(the one with the
wingman logo) and tighten the nut under it.
be very carful not to tighten it too much as theres a circutboard under the
nut that can be broken if you tighten it too much

That's the new FF GP version of the Logitech wheel, which I happen to
have as well. And yes, it has very little play.
Isn't it amazing how everyone dismisses the new wheel as looking cheap,
while at the same time the things that matter, such as tightness of
assembly and pedals, appear to be better. So it doesn't have a cable
driven mechanism. So far, I haven't been given one argument why this
would work better than gears. My unit has absolutely no slack in the
gear mechanism, if that is what is feared.

I wouldn't mind the gears or the pedals (which look like the MS
FF wheel now). But what I really couldn't deal with is the lack of
shift paddles. The buttons are totally unsuitable IMHO.

The point was, thought, that the new wheel is nearly not as bad as the
initial impression in comparison with the old model would have you
believe (and is likely better in some respects).

Yes, the pedals are quite good. But, the poor clamping system killed
it for me.

noticed it unless you deliberately wiggle it. If it i a problem when driving
then it may be a bit looser than usual.

How do you remove that center cap to get at the nut underneath?
Sorry, but I'm not the most mechanically inclined.....

call it slack, play, ...
It's normal for an out-of-the-box-Logi and comes from the plastic bushings.
Though, check out my webpage for a cure.

Don and Dawn,
I had the same problem when I got my LWFF wheel. This is a simple problem to
correct. What you are seeing is a poor fit between the wheel and the shaft
(both have two flats, but not wedged flats (which would have solved the problem
from a design standpoint). All that is needed is to
1. pop off the front cover and remove the nut
2. disconnect the connector so you can slide the wheel off of the shaft
3. cut a long narrow shim material to fit on one of the flats (make this
longer
than the shaft length so that you can feed it through the wheel when
reinstalling it, then trim it once the wheel is back in place)
4. reassemble and you may notice an improvement in the play if in fact this
was
the problem with your particular wheel
Good luck,
Wayne

I must have been lucky as my desk is an old fashioned plain wood deal,
and the clamps hold onto it well. I am sure, though, that if you put
some rubber pads under the unit the clamps will hold it on any kind of
surface. Too bad Logitech didn't put it in the box as well.

Yes, that would help (my table has an arborite finish). But, that
doesn't help with the problem of there being no force to hold it down
at the centre of the base. I found it tended to lift up off the
surface of the table because of this.

Do you use those clamp extenders that came with the wheel? If you do, be
sure that they are standing at the ends of the clamps and not close to
you (they are able to move when the clamps are not tightened). They will
give more leverage that way.
I personally am very satisfied with the clamping mechanism, as it's very
easy to move the wheel to the side of the desk to be substituted with
the keyboard and back again, and it holds the wheel in place firmly for
me. But as seen here, your mileage may vary.

Yes, I used the clamp extenders (had to).

I've already taken the wheel back for a refund. Much prefer the clamps
on the Microsoft wheels.
