Re: Unusual GPL VROC Lockup

Yes, I am running Zonealarm for my firewall. I switched off zonealarm and was able to join a race online, go back to the pits, rejoin the race - no problems. I guess I have to go and buy a firewall now (zonealarm is free). Thank you! Colin Yates. In article <[email hidden]>, Maxx <[email hidden]> wrote:

I have not seen this particular lockup in any of the discussions: I can join a race on VROC with no problem, but if I hit esc/enter to go back to the pits, my computer locks up with a black screen and a continuous GPL car sound from the speakers. The only way to get out of this is to hit the computer off switch. The same problem happens if I get to the end of practice. At the transition to the race, my computer locks up. I have similar problems when I try to race directly with a friend over the Web without using VROC. I have reduced video detail to get a solid 36fps online. I have no problems with GPL when not racing online. I have a 500 Meg PIII, NVidia TNT2 16Mb, Soundblaster Live Value, 128Mb RAM, DSL connection (DHCP). GPL 1.2 with Disco fix, WINVROC with fix, ACT Labs Force RS wheel with RS Shifter running 5 speed patch with VROC patch. Can any one help? Thank you. Colin Yates. I had the exact same problem,. traced it to my usage of the firewall software ZoneAlarm. May also be a problem with other firewall progs. Even thoough I gave WinVROC & GPL full access it still failed, now I switch off ZoneAlarm when on VROC. Providing you don't have NETBIOS loaded and any shares active, you should be OK. Quick question!! Does this only happen with 3dfx and ZoneAlarm? I used to have a Voodoo2 and it has since been removed and it is still causing me troubles. So, what I am asking is, "is this problem with GPL, VROC, and ZoneAlarm only happening with GPL computers that are using/used a 3dfx adapter?" SLG Maxx <[email hidden]> wrote:

No. It gave me the same problems with my TNT2 as well as my Voodoo4. It has nothing to do with the video card. > So, what I am asking is, "is this problem with GPL, VROC, and > ZoneAlarm only happening with GPL computers that are using/used a 3dfx > adapter?"
Epilogue: I downloaded the free Sybase firewall from http://www.sybergen.com/products/shield_ov.htm and it works fine with GPL/VROC. Colin Yates In article <8us73l$k4o$[email hidden]>, [email hidden] wrote:
