After running for GPL for several weeks with frame rates of 30fps+ in 19
AI opponents races, I have had to reformat and reinstall everything on
my hard drive. Now the fps can drop to as low as 5fps. As far as I can
see everything is set the same as it was before. Any ideas?
OS:
WinME
Hardware:
Pentium 3 450 MHz
Voodoo 3 3000 with latest driver
MS Force Feedback Wheel
GPL:
Version 1.2.0.1 patch
GPL_d3d patch
Settings in core.in as patch read-me
Mirrors Car & Track only
No add-on detail except car set for Repco
Any help would be appreciated.

Check that it's running in D3D mode ( You have to make adjustments to your
core.ini I think) , 5fps sounds like it's set to software. If that's not the
case set it to run in glide.

Why would you use the d3d patch when you have a 3dfx card??

If that's not correct and I should be using Glide, how do I do that?
Thanks

Removed all of GPL
Reinstalled GPL from CD
Reinstalled 1.2 patch from CD
Renamed supplied core.ini.sample to core.ini
Selected 3dfx in options
Still have the same low frame rate although improves if force feed back
set to off (0) in core.ini
What I can't understand is that it used to be all right

You have a 3dfx Voodoo3 card which is optimised for the Glide API. In the
graphics options select 3dfx and you will see a big improvement in picture
quality and framerate.
Cheers

5fps in d3d, but 36fps most of the time with k7-700+voodoo3

I suggested verifying that GPL was still set to 3Dfx after restarting
GPL.
My 2nd suggestion was to de-install Web-TV. I know the V3-3500 had a
problem with it, as noted in Alison's hardware FAQ... Hey, now I get to
post the URL :-)
Goto http://www.simracing.com/~alison/gpl/faq-hw.htm and search for
WebTV.
