In most games the inside car view gives me the feeling of sitting in the
backseat of the car ;-)
Normally you cant see that much of the inside of the car without turning
your head.
Hood or bumper view also gives me a much better sense of speed !
Or maybe I misunderstand you ?
If 'outside the car' is the view where you are sort driving in another car
behind the one you are steering, I agree thats not very realistic..
Its like going from a first-person to a third-person shooter..

Will Colin McRae Rally 2.0 have a cockpit view?
David Cook worried that no Colin McRae Rally 2.0 screenshots showed a cockpit view. Others noted Codemasters was working on a head-cam and that the PlayStation movie showed one, and it was later confirmed the game had a cockpit view. Users debated the value of cockpit versus bonnet views.

The last I heard was that Codemasters is still working on the "Head-Cam"
like they had in the original Colin McRae Rally. This would probably
explain the lack of cockpit screen shots.

That's correct. I race for realism. I don't get that driving from
outside of a car. Very few racing titles make the cut on my PC...

still working on it :)

If they pop off a good "head cam" from the cockpit with 6 degrees of
freedom (6DOF) this title could be a real treat. Thanks for the info.
Where can I view the PSX movie?

let me ease your mind; CMRR2 has a cockpit view.
btw; am I alone in hating those? I find that an extra pair of arms
and a second steering wheel looks really stupid.

myk, trygg og god.
Hood cam is good enough for me. It helps me place the car, and doesn't kill
the framerate. Especially in a tin-top sim, the artificially constrained
windshield drives me nuts. On the other hand, I love the arms in GPL, and I
like seeing the wheels, again as it helps place the car.

Don't care a damn whether or not there's a cockpit view if the physics
is good. I suppose if I were really bothered I could just stick a
picture of a dashboard and a few cupholders on the monitor. Can't
understand the eye-candy types. Physics is what it's about for me - not
whether or not I can see a dashboard.

I'm with you, David. I feel as if I can hardly control the sim
without the cockpit to provide perspective, especially when you are
expected to spend a lot of time "slideways" such as DTR and any rally
sim
If you can't see the dash, it's an arcade game. I also have done some
non-sim racing late models and find the views in, say N3, quite
realistic in regard to the amount of track you can see compared with
the interior. My late model was damn claustrophobic, which is
something I really appreciated. When I could touch the rollbar and
headrest with my helmet, I knew that I wouldn't get bounced around too
much during the (inevitable) impact.

I don't have a problem with dashboards. it's the two steering wheels

I agree, as long as the camera can be positioned to where your eyeseight
should be (loosely, bonnet view works as well). However, what I am more
worried about is that all the photos show really wide tracks (apart from
a few tarmac stages). I know it produces better gameplay, but as a Rally
simulation it is not what I would wish it to be.
BTW, did anyone check out the Pro Rally 2001 demo? If you can get past
the controller steering speed sensitivity (by edititng the
limiter.(something) file that is burried somewhere in the car files), it
produces a really great driving feel. Which is not all that surprising
after you go and check some of the vehicle files. The ammount of stuff
represented in there is amazing! It could prove to be a surprise best
Rally sim contender.

I've removed the "read only" attributes from the commands directory and
created a new driver as has been suggested but still... No Go :-(

I recently had the chance to sit in PPI's Tide Cup car and was really
surprised just how claustrophobic it can be in one of those things, the wide
angle lenses used in the TV broadcasts don't really give the viewer a true
perspective. I know you don't want to be moving around at 180mph, but by the
time you're belted in with a helmet on and all the frame tubes and nets
around you, things are pretty tight in there. I couldn't imagine doing 500
miles on a short track in one of those bad boys, it must just beat the crap
out of you. I must say though, I wouldn't even race one of those cars
without a Hans device or some other sort of head restraint. The cars are
built so strong your head and neck are pretty much free to flail around in a
hard impact, it could snap a vertibrae like a matchstick if you hit at the
wrong angle.

Believe me, Don, that claustrophobia is quite reassuring. I never ran
more than 100 laps, but I had the benefit of having the steering wheel
much further away than the WC guys do.
There was an article on the HANS devices in this month's Circle Track
magazine . . . since my daughter and I both race, I'll be getting two
of them for next season.
