I just beat my Personal Best at Kyalami, but GPL then crashed before saving
the time back to player.ini
However... I had already saved a replay, so I can prove that the time is
true and valid! Under these circumstances it doesn't seem unreasonable to
me to edit the player.ini manually with the new time and date.
However... the format isn't all that obvious. It is fairly easy to spot the
right entry... but I don't understand the format of what must be the time
and date fields. Can anyone advise?
do the lap again.

I did some editing there myself yesterday to _remove_ a time
at Mosport that was better than my previous best but included
some heavy contact with the armco before the hairpin.

If your asking if it's ok to do such editing and then upload it to
GPLRank the answer is no, don't do it. You did the lap once Russell,
you can do it again and probably faster, go for it.

Why not?

I agree - I most certainly intend to do it again, and better. I'm a long
way from finished with Kyalami. But in the mean time, what is wrong with
claiming credit for a perfectly valid lap time?

This question has been asked of us many times Russell.
The rule for editing your player.ini, is that it is to be edited ONLY to DELETE
bogus times from online clock smashes, or no damage rail riding, times that you
feel weren't driven honestly. For us to allow exceptions to this rule opens up
a big gray area where we have to deal with and judge every individual request,
and there would be a lot of them. There are currently 2396 accounts on GPLRank,
you can count the people that actively manage them on the fingers of one hand.
To keep it manageable, there is one simple rule for everybody.

If the question is frequently asked... perhaps it deserves an entry in the
GPLRank FAQ?

I wasn't aware of this rule -- and as far as I can see it doesn't appear in
the "rules" on the
GPLRank site -- but I can understand the reasoning and I'm comfortable with
it. My
player.ini remains unedited.
Thanks :-)

It happened to me twice,
two days in a row. I tell you what I was p*&^ed! BUT the guys are
right if you can do it once, just do it again, and guess what, you
usually can do it better. Not that my Rank time is worth anything, and
I have not been racing in over a month! I feel your pain.

Your right, it should be mentioned in the FAQ. It's been discussed on ras a few
times in the past but we tend to forget what a large community we are and that
people come and go all the time. I'll make a request to Uwe that we add it.

Just thank your lucky stars that it was Kyalami and not the 'Ring. Trust
me, I know from experience.

Ouch!
Update: I set a Kyalami PB again last night ... a better one... and exited
fast before risking any crashes (of Lotus or PC).
So I'm happy now. Very. :-)
