Cross-posted religious spam spawns religion argument
A religious spam post cross-posted into the group set off a debate about the meaning of 'Allah', the existence of God and atheism. The thread included personal insults between several posters. Some regulars added jokes about spiders, cockroaches and 'believing in BRM'.

Bzzzt. Wrong answer.
Allah, or Al'lah as spelled in the recent past, is a contraction of
the pagan deity's name "Alilah". The symbol of this "god" is the
crescent moon. Ringing any bells yet? If not, take a look at many
flags in Muslim countries.
Thus endeth the lecture.

There is no heaven.
There is no hell.
Religion, in all its forms, is simply a crutch which mankind, since the dawn
of time, has used to explain the inexplicable and to cover the fact that
mortality is something which he cannot accept.
When we die, we cease to exist.
There is no afterlife.
There is no "beyond".
There is no reincarnation.
There is nothing.
The filament in the light bulb has burnt out.
Yet mankind will continue to wage wars in the name of religion and in
defence and support of "god".

Dear Bruce,
According to a documentary I saw recently a particular type of spider (I
forget which) is sheing signs of complex behaviour and will try to "talk"
with a tv image of another spider of the same type, apparently its brain is
the size of a grain od salt and this is mystifying the researchers, they are
convinced that it shews the same level of intelligence as that of a lab rat,
which isnt bad I suppose.... lab spiders anyone...........?

In spite of some signs of intelligence spiders and rats are not very bright.
But then apparently they are not the ones who are mystified either. Studies
do show however that spiders, rats and researchers all demonstrate a much
heighten sense of awareness when set on fire. Bruce

BruceThat's exactly my point......I *don't* believe that a religion - any
religion - is anything more than superstition that has been in existence
since mankind evolved into a creature aware of its own existence and afraid
of thunder.
And I am far more open-minded about my belief than is the Mormon missionary
or Jehovah's Witness who rings my doorbell and then proceeds to harangue me
about *their* belief. But then, I don't go around ringing *their* doorbells
and trying to convert them to my line of thought.
So guess who is the more tolerant and more open-minded!
It never ceases to amaze me that religious zealots continually trot out the
"have an open-minded approach" line yet they *have* to go forth and spread
their message throughout the length and breadth of the land, forcing their
beliefs on others.
*Their* minds are closed tighter than a fish's arsehole, and that's
