Typical Netscape garbage...
Fix 2 bugs.... and create 4 more, each twice as big as the 2 they solved.
Memory munch is off the scale... unstable is being kind... page opening
takes FOREVER... downloads give you rigamortis... what more can I say...
Now if only they would go away..... would make Internet standards so much
more bearable and easy to design for. I really feel for those Netscape
diehards who refuse to let it go.... the Internet is so much more enjoyable
on other browsers.
In closing... If it wasn't for having to preview work in it... it would be
off my utility box.
Nuff Said...
Cheers,
Schumi

ermmm....
If you use getright..... why not switch back to explorer... works in there
too :)
Webpages are viewed with "real colours" (not Netscapes twisted palette...
what's with that BTW)
Security is FAR superior on Explorer (I can basically extract ANY
information I want outta NS browsers... like user information, etc.)
The calculation routines in NS have been a losing battle in NS since day 1
Table useage still not fixed in NS... guess we still need to image map
everything in cells (including the words... blah)
Sorry if I went off on a rant... I am a diehard HATER of the Netscape
browser on every level. You learn to develop this hatred in the bottom of
your gut when you need to design a website with ANY sort of function to it
(including those functions that were standardized 3 years back).
In fact.... my personal projects don't even take Netscape into mind during
design. I am starting to see a lot more of that too... guess I'm not the
only designer out there who feels this way. Saw something REALLY funny the
other day:
Entrance page to a website (can't remember which one)...
Gives you the option "Explorer.... Netscape"
In my haste I accidentally clicked on the NS link.
It read "Come on outta the cave young one... look into the light... Netscape
is killing your surfing" with a link to the explorer download page with a
nice glow around it. I still chuckle when I think of it...
Cheers,
Schumi

Unfortunately, the AOL influx is most obvious, making the last
installment a bloated and slow piece of software, with reduced
configuration capabilities. I'll stick with 4.76 and wait for what
the free Mozilla project comes up with (if ever :-).

Thanks.

I installed it and removed it. Started to have lockups and memory blockouts
where the some of the browser screen was missing. I just kept 4.76 and use
it now..
They can keep netscape 6

Ever try Opera? It's not free (30 day demo). But, it's fast, efficient

I like it since i can download 5 files at onces instead of 2 like explorer and i
like its
interface (on the 4.7x version) and it workes with my Getright mass downloader

That can be fixed. Disable HTTP 1.1 in the Options. If that doesn't do it
I have a reg hack that will.
IE conforms to the HTTP 1.1 spec that allows no more than 2 simultaneous
connections to the same server. It's a "good neighbour" kind of thing.
D.
Thanks to all for the warning. I'm glad I asked.....

I like the aesthetics of the GUI interface.
Other than that, it's just another browser.

Yeah, I'm using it every now and then. Unfortunately it's not as
configurable as I would like it to be and it's missing some (for me)
important features like for instance the Personal Toolbar.
Plus, apparently it's not yet in the equation of many web designers,
even though it's the most standards compliant browser off all (short
of NS6 and Amaya maybe), so you often get problems with websites
that are specifically designed for the proprietary extensions of NS
and IE.
Jan
Well, so THAT's what's causing that!
I'll never complain about an off-topic post again :)
