I think the biggest drawbacks with NASCAR Heat are the following:
Horrible, blind, brain dead AI
Lousy damage modeling
The AI cars NEVER get a DNF
Poor implementation of flags
Bad multiplayer(with no flags at all)
Difficult editing of cars and drivers
And last- I think most of us are sick to death of NASCAR titles. No matter
how advanced and pretty they get, there's only so much you can do with a big
circle- unless you have good multiplayer, which Heat does not have.
I thought Heat was going to be the next great one for the first week or so,
but then all these problems started showing up, and I think it's the same
for several folks. A good attempt, but aside from the graphics it's just
plain average.

I'm a racing fan having GPL, Rally Champ, F1200, and Nascar Heat.
GPL is of course offers the best physics. Rally Champ the best scenic
route and weather effects. F1-2000 is giving me eye-ache with its
shimmering fishnet fence. Nascar Heat is the combination of GPL physics
and Rally Champ beauty. In stereoscopic, NH is divine. I am grateful
to its developer. Monster games is it ?
But I digress. I'm surprise to see virtually no discussion on this
newsgroup about this game. How come ? Is there any forum dedicated
to this game ? Any link ? Fan websites ?

Yes Monster Games Inc, MGI, made Heat. I like Heat too :-) In fact, I
race Heat more than N3 since I'm only in 2 N3 online series.

damage. Its off my HD and on the shelf. Ya gotta look beyond the
pretty face :)
Terrible game. Pretty graphics.

I'm still enjoying it though :)

I agree the physics are quite good, Marc- I was being a little flippant in
that post, mainly because Heat is such a disappointment for me. Nice for
hotlaps, almost impossible to race seriously.
Hopefully the next patch will address the killer issues- then heat will be a
worthy contender.

licensed game (http://www.irocracing.com/). Imagine NASCAR Heat with
IROC's fixed-length races, identical cars, only 12 cars per race, and
no pit stops. The animated pit crew is VERY well-done (I'd love to
see this done in F1 2000), but with an IROC-licensed sim, the
programming time spent on the pit crew could have been better spent
fixing the flag implementation and AI issues, as well as implementing
some form of Internet play.
I think that an IROC version of NASCAR Heat would have thrown us all
into a fury, especially if they had included all four of the current
IROC tracks (Indy, Daytona, Michigan, and Talledega), plus a few
"fantasy" IROC road courses (Watkins Glen and Sears point, plus maybe
Road America and Long Beach, perhaps). All of that, plus NASCAR
Heat's excellent graphics and physics would have had us all talking
(and playing) for some time to come.
Interesting concept, eh? Hope MGI is still browsing this newsgroup
(you out there, Ed?).

(snip)
IROC would be fine particularly if it included IROC from the beginning when
they ran Porches, then Camaros, then Dodges (I think). There were several
perfectly legitimate non fantasy road courses included in the series in its
earlier years before it devolved into solely a NASCAR benefit and support
race. I'd love to see the NH engine running this.
