Whats up with the new poor force feedback quality?

I own and love my Logitech Wingman Force joystick. Its been a great feeling stick and the stick works perfectly in 90% of the games and demos I try. When it doesn't work properly its almost always the fact that I can't map an axis or button the way I want. I'm not sure if the reason for some games/demos not allowing my throttle wheel or some buttons to map properly is a driver issue or game programming issue; either way I'd say I'm very happy with this stick cause the large majority of the time it works perfect. On the other hand, due to my like for my stick so much, I've convinced my brother-in-law to get the latest Logitech Wingman Force 3D stick. Ick. What a pile of crap this thing feels like. Noisy, sloppy, weak forces and hard to reach buttons; a huge step backwards compared to Logitechs earlier stick. Then there is the newest MS FF stick that my best friend bought and I tried out last night. Lot nicer quality and very solid, well built feeling stick compared to the new Logitech one. Only problem is over half the games we tried the FF efx didn't work at all or only half worked. I'd tell my brother-in-law to take back the Logitech one and get the MS one but too many damn games don't work right with the MS one, main problem being no centering force(yeah, well checked the stick properities in control panel); the stick was free floating and would slop from side to side with no effort at all even though the efx would come through. Very odd and crappy sensation. Anyway thats my rant for the month. :)

They're probably producing it more cheaply so they can sell it for less like they did with the Formula Force Wheel. Best Buy has the old stick on closeout. I saw them for $30 at the one by me. Might want to see if they have any at the Best Buy near you. Tim

No problems ever here with an MS FF stick for over 2 years since I butchered my 4th Shitek X36 combo with a hammer. The MS FF stick always returns to centre and on the top setting is quite ridged. Perhaps you've just bought a duff MS stick? H. Destroy <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:3a207643$0$78062$[email hidden]...

Agreed with all you said, but I think the original poster was bemoaning the fact that the current force-feedback wheel technology is still far from perfect, and making it worse is the fact that the wheels are inconsistent in quality. Haven't personally bought or even tried one out yet, but I'm leaning toward getting the Thrustmaster/Guillemot Ferrari wheel - seems to work well with most/all games, and is a reasonable $119 (US). If I was to step up another $100 or so, I'd try out the Act-Labs and the optional shifter. -- <remove 7of9 for e-mail replies> -- Bill Jones e-mail addresses: Computer Sciences Corp. It sounds to me like the MS one isn't detecting that he's HOLDING the stick. There's a little sensor on the front of a stick... you have to put your hand over that hole, or the stick doesn't move much. I think MS wants to make sure people don't get hit by a moving stick or something. :) If he is putting his hand over that sensor, then maybe the sensor is busted. "Hengist" <[email hidden]> wrote:
