Hi guys
I just purchased a new puter
AMD Athlon 900 Thunderbird
Asus A7V Motherboard KT133 chipset
256 SDRAM
SB Live
Matrox Milleneum G400, 32 megs
Here is my problem: In Nasacar3 if i choose 3DFx in the 3D acceleration
options i get the message that "can not initialise 3dfxdll.dll defaulting to
software" which means that it goes to none which means 2D. If i select
Direct 3D it seem s ok except tha i can see the 3d effects get drawn ahead
of my car which in real life would be +/- 150 feet, very anoying, I have
the latest DirectX driver as well as the latest driver from Mtrox.
I hope someone can shed some light as i am very discouraged

Your video card does not have a 3dfx chip and cannot initialise the Glide
rasteriser. Your card is only capable of doing OpenGL and D3D which brings
us to...

This is caused by your not card not being able to do FSAA (Full Screen
Anti-Aliasing).

Pierre,
3dfx, as has been said, is not directly supported by Matrox, there
are a number of what are calkled "glide wrappers" [3dfx emulators]
but all those I've tried only give marginal improvement over software
and often introduce graphical anomoloies.
As for D3D, there are known issues with the Matrox 6.10 drivers
(the latest last time I looked), try going back to the 6.04 ones
which are very solid.
I don't have Nascar 3, but your problem seems like a "Draw
Distance" one. Often called different things but essentially it's
a setting that controls how far in front graphic detail is drawn.
You should be able to get good results with your system. I
have a G400 on a P3 550 and can comfortably run GPL
at 1024 x 768 with Max detail. I have run the N3 demo at
some stage and would have run that at 1024 x 768 also.
Look around for this setting (usually a slider), or maybe
someone else knows exactly what it is called in N3.
Maxx
