Best RC2000 downloads?

4 posts by 4 people · 27 Nov 2000 - 28 Nov 2000

After many months of honing my skills on GPL, I put RC2000 back onto my computer. Suddenly it's fun. I don't know if GPL has improved my reactions, but I am catching problems before they happen. No more bouncing from one side of the road to the other like a pinball. I find now I am using the berms here and there (here's a tip - drive in the arcade mode for a while and you will quickly figure out which berms can be used [to pass the obnoxious opponents] and which are launching pads). I don't agree that the car modelling is as horrendous as many claim. Partly it's a question of which view you select; the bumper cam doesn't properly convey the motion of the car, whereas the cockpit view is quite good. Still, there's no doubt it's an "engine" based almost purely on lookup tables, and lacks simple things like fore-aft weight shift which is even showing up in "arcade" titles like NFS:Porsche. However, compared to the uninspired Pro Rally 2001 demo I tried on the weekend, the adrenaline rush of RC2000 and the feeling that one is actually competing on a real rally are unsurpassed. It's also nice that those sweet graphics manage to fly along at a good rate. After that lengthy ramble, I'd like to ask which are the "essential" RC2000 downloads? Where is the latest patch? Stephen

I re-discovered RC2000 also a month ago. The newest patch makes ik considerably better, and the ralwiz util is very handy (saves you messing around with ini files). This site is very good for all your RC2000 needs: http://drive.to/rallychampionship Andre
