GPL Online Racing - Problems with ICS/ME
Problem Found
Although Windows ME does not report this as a problem I discovered that one
of my network adapters was sharing IRQ11 with my AGP Graphics Adapter. I
realised this when on a couple of occasions trying to join from my client
computer that the screen would freeze on the host computer.
Set-up Achievements
By trial and error relocating the two network adapters in the host computer
I have been able to access GPL from my client computer from Dial-up
networking and LAN. I assume that when I log on to WinVROC and run the host
computer as a dedicated server, I shall be able to join from my client
computer using the LAN. (will try later tonite)
ICS Fails
Installing Internet Connection Sharing causes the hosting of GPL to fail. I
tried to access GPL from my client computer, using Dial up networking. This
just causes 'time out' problems, although from DOS I can 'ping' the IP
address.
Why use ICS?
The client computer is my preferred computer. The host computer has not the
graphics or power of the client computer and is used as a dedicated server
and is adequate because it does not have the processor pressure of driving
on that one too. ICS would be needed on the client computer so that I can
also join other races. The only way of doing that otherwise is to use
dialup.
When you have a cable modem, the last thing you want is to use dialup.
Anyone out there having a similar problem or has got ICS to work, please let
me know.
Thanks,
Alan
