Re: Ford Racing 2001 - Scary Trend!

6 posts by 5 people · 28 Nov 2000 - 28 Nov 2000 12:24 UTC

You know I'm starting to see this trend more and more, and it worries me.... Game makers rush their product to market in time for Christmas or whatever, often full of bugs and/or incomplete, then.... Rather than patching it properly, they re-release the product as "2001" version!!! So if you want weather effects, or in-car cameras, or whatever that should have been included in the initial release you have to buy it again! Edios is notorious for this with their Tomb Raider and Thief series, coming out with a "Gold" version a few months to a year later, which is just the original game with a few extra levels, and/or support for 3D sound, or some new wizbang graphics card. Usually they offer a small refund if you were a sucker enough to buy the first game when it initially came out and still have your proof of purchase, so that takes some of the sting out, but now were seeing EA's F1-2001 and this re- release of Ford Racing.... Let's hope this doesn't become the rule rather than the exception! Jay J In article <900caq$m56$[email hidden]>, [email hidden] wrote:

I'd guess it's a European release of the U.S. version of the original game. The U.S. version includes a variety of new views, including in- car (with cockpit and moving steering wheel) and bumper-cam views. Big improvement over the original demo. -- JB In article <3a233f06$0$19406$[email hidden]>, "Luke Phillips" <[email hidden]> wrote: > Who made it, and whats it look like? > > Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Hey, it's the American way. Besides, they don't have to count their votes as many times as we do, so they've got to suffer in other, little ways . . . ;-) Seriously, though, I think the folks in Europe who bought the original game deserve a patch or something -- this is something that people shoudl complain to Empire Interactive about. -- JB Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Following up on the recent Ford Racing discussion, I just noticed that Ford Racing 2001 has gone gold... Andre

So, they first release Ford Racing in Europe and it is crap. Then they add some features and tries to sell it in the US, and then sell that again in Europe as a new game... -- Olav K.
