I can calibrate the steering axis in the N4 demo fine, but it won't
recognize it when I try to assign it as the steering axis. Anyone else
with a MSPP wheel and the same problem?

To answer my own question and incase anyone else has the same problem.
Papyrus has put a version of vjoy.vxd in the N4 folder. This version
is probably not compatible with DX8 or my wheel so I renamed it so
that N4 would be forced to use the vjoyd.vxd in the windows\system
folder. This fixed the problem for me.
Vjoy.vxd is the Papyrus joystick driver, which wouldn't be used when
DirectInput is selected. The problem you are experiencing is a known bug,
but appears to be intermittent so having it work after deleting the VXD is
likely just a coincidence. I have the same wheel and most of the time it
will calibrate correctly, however occasionally times the arrows on the
calibration screen fail to update and/or the wheel is unable to be assigned
to the steering control. We're working on it.

OK, guess it was a coincidence then.

P.S. Although I liked the demo I can't help but feel the pull to the
left is a bit much. NH feels better to me in this regard. Don't know
which is more realistic, but I see a few others say the pull is too
much so maybe you can tweak that up a bit too?
Play with the setup (especially caster and camber).
