I fixed it! :)
I got my h/d, and video card, and put into my parents computer and it works
fine. It has dx8 with win98 and a super crap onboard soundcard, so obviously
it doesnt have much to do with the soundcard. There must be some sort of
conflicting going on with my other and your(s) system... a combination of
things. Post anything if u find out anything new!

Not only are the engine sounds messed up, but all other sounds as well. If
I tap the wall, or scrape the asphalt the sound cracks (for lack of a better
description). It carry's over into the menu system after I get off the
track. This occured with both the Vortex card and I tried racing last night
with bad sound. Guess what - without "seat of the pants" feedback I think
we rely more on sound than we would expect. It was very hard to run with
the sound so messed up.
All my drivers are up to date including Liveware 3 for Windows 2000, DX8,
Act Labs Force RS newest drivers and the latest from NVidia (7.22's I
think). I did manage to get the controller setup to see my reverse button
on the RS Shifter:) Sometimes when I go into the demo it wants me to
re-select all my controller options, but I just escape out and discard
changes and everything is okay.
A couple of other issues: You can't chat while driving. At least not with
the RS Shifter in H Pattern mode. The demo puts you into Neutral when you
hit "T". Also you can't "Look Left/Look Right" using buttons on your wheel.
It appears as though the game keeps the button pressed while in gear and
won't allow me to press another to look.

Are you having the same problems Luke described in an earlier thread? I have
them too, but DX8 has been perfect with every game I've tried on my system
so far except for the N4 demo.

Have you tried turning down the hardware acceleration down a notch or
two for the soundcard?
Yeah, thanks. Been all through everything I could find. I've also tried 3
different sound cards. One A3D and two CL's to no avail...

I have tried everything i know of to get engine sounds working in N4
with my SB16, but all i get are a few clicks at startup, then a
convulted linear static pitch....
This is the only game (demo) i have sound problems with, so it's not
the DX version causing it..
Cheers,
Ron
