They didn't include a letterbox view because all you would be able to
see is the steering wheel and the gauges. Nice dash, Papy. Wonder
what the track looks like?

This newsgroup has way too many N4 posts :)
What i really would like is a option in the game that let me have the
GPL letterboxed view. It gives better focus on the track, and gives
the impression of a wider FOV than the 4:3 format. I hoped they would
make it default letterbox, but then papy would have to answer to a lot
of "what the f**k is up with the black bars on top and bottom of the
screen, IS IT MY VIDEOCARD!!!!!!!" mails :)
One other thing is that a letterboxed view fits my 16:9 TV much
better.
Pretty funny to really notice how little the view of the track is.

It is the letterbox you speak of. Just imagine the top and bottom of the
cockpit as black and there you go. If you run N3, look closely and you will
see that the it also is really a letterbox view once the cockpit graphics
are removed.

Sheesh, what were they thinking, they made a realistic view in a realistic
cockpit! Shame on them <VBG>. Cmon John.

Okay, Frank, I'll come clean -- the N4 cockpit view DOES look horrible
as a screen shot, and that was what I was basing my comments on (I
hadn't even installed the demo when I made that comment, in fact).
BUT . . .
In action, the cockpit actually looks and works GREAT. I turned
several laps back-to-back in N4 and Heat, and I have to say that the N4
cockpit is WONDERFUL. More claustrophobic than Heat, yet, but the
action, motion, and overall feel help make it MORE of a simulation
overall.
Maybe the simulate cockpit IS part of a good vehicle simulation.
Regardless of what Tom Pabst says, the moving cockpit in Heat may be
exaggerated, but it's all part of the simulation. N4 is less
exaggerated in longitudinal movement, but it does the same thing, but
maybe it does it a bit better, actually.
I've NEVER been a fan of Papy's NASCAR sims; Heat is the first NASCAR
sim that I got any enjoyment at all out of, in fact (aside from some
random nostalgia derived from NASCAR Legends). N4 just might change
all that.
Long live the king!

P.S. Nice track, Papy -- compliments the dash very nicely. Big kudos
for N4. How about an IRL sim? After all, you've already got ALL the
ovals! <G>

There is no such thing as a realistic view out of a realistic (or not)
cockpit Bruce. You don't see them racecar drivers sitting on the roof of
their car eh?

Perhaps some players would've preferred a realistic view *OUT* of a
realistic cockpit?
