This is the subject of a lot of heated discussion, but yes, it would. it's not so much the banking as it is a combination of caster, camber, stagger, tire pressure differential, and in general, an assymetric setup under the car. It's pretty apparent in any oval track car. "Martin Chapman" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:90974n$vtk$[email hidden]...

Hi all Normally into GPL, but downloaded the N4 demo (I have N3)and it seems very promising. My question is would a real nascar setup pull left down the banking on the straights? So you have to steer up on the straights. Us Europeans are not very versed in this oval racing so it may be obvious but all comments appreciated. Cheers Martin

This particular European is well aware of the fact that the ammount of stagger put on a Nascar would indeed make it tend to turn left down straights. this has also already been discussed to death. Doug "Martin Chapman" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:90974n$vtk$[email hidden]...

Martin, NASCAR teams generally use "stagger" in their setup, in which the right side tires are a bit larger than the left side for better performance in the turns. Because of that, yes, the car will pull left on the straights... Cheers from the States, Sundown
>winston cup cars no longer have stagger, it went away when radials tires >started being used, but they do say that the inflation of a tire will act as >stagger to an extent. > This is backwards. The stagger of the old bias ply tires could be modified by overinflating and warming the tire. Radials have stagger, but it is set by Goodyear and not adjustable.
This is the first game that I have tried that requires moving the linear/non-linear slider all the way or almost all the way to the right to make my wheel feel like its "simulated". I noticed that with the slider in default position I had to turn my wheel to 2 or 3 o'clock while on the straights. With the slider at full right position I only need to turn the wheel to 1 o'clock or so. Yay, i was worried for a few laps. They still have stagger in NASCAR today but it is set by Goodyear and each track has a different stagger. I forget where it is but there was a web site that gave you the tire specs on sizes for each track. -- Solo1 C-Modified (CASC-OR/BARC) http://www.barc-oc.com http://www.casc.on.ca

Thanks All Just wanted to know was the left pull a genuine physics reaction or a prob with my wheel setup much appreciated Martin "Tim 'Sundown' Traylor" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

This is the one 'feature' of N4 that will absolutely make a MESS out of online racing. They do this in the name of 'realism'. Two things... First, not everything real transfers to a sim well. This is one of them. THIS PULL TO THE LEFT MUST GO! Second. I've been watching Nascar for some 20 years, and I've yet to see the drivers have to yank their wheels to the right some 45% to keep the car going straight. This is absolutely, totaly screwed up in N4, and if it wasn't for the trim tab in NH, it would be there too. Please, sim writers. Take this feature out, or put in an option to disable it. It is annoying, unwanted, and will ruin the game. Thank You. -Larry "Martin Chapman" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:90974n$vtk$[email hidden]...

Until this is removed from the SIMS (as I know of few who like or want it) it has not been discussed enough. When they listen, we'll shut up :) -Larry "Douglas Ellison" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:yzVV5.4892$[email hidden]...

How about calling it a "Genuine Problem" :) -Larry "Martin Chapman" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:90e0h5$u5m$[email hidden]...

perhaps we should take out ALL the realism. We could then not worry about piddling things like setups, tire wear, and the like. Why not have EVERYONE racing with SuperMario Brothers instead. I've put about 100 online laps in so far...except to two bozos who sit at turn three trying to cause wrecks, most of the guys seemed to have figured out the steerring. dave henrie "Larry" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:DawY5.16665$[email hidden]...

Y'know, I've never seen someone suggest this. Is it possible that the wheel in a real Nascar is *mounted* with this in mind? Meaning, the steering wheel looks like it's level when the correct right input is used. The mount the gauges so that 'straight up' is normal - why not the wheel? It is and was always like that Eldred. With the snap-out wheel that they use in WC, they use a mechanism that will put the wheel on already pointing to the right a couple of degrees, to get a correct angle on a possible push (and the track banking). Some people just assume it's a flaw and will kill multiplayer racing. Oh please, satisfy some arcade gamer's need is NOT what the realistic mode of N4 is for. Just tweak the setup SYMMETRICAL if you don't like it. -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... -- http://www.WeRace.net -- People think it must be fun to be a super genius, but they don't realise how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world.

when I went to Richard Petty Driving Experience they told me to hold the wheel at 10 & 4 - that way in the corner it's at 9 & 3. Frankly, I was going too fast to check to see where the wheel was going down the back straight at Lowe's :) Ray EldredP wrote:

I went on the rookie experience. By the last lap, hit 143.5 mph. (about 43 seconds IIRC) Was wicked fun. If I had a few more laps, I probably could have done 150. but... it gives me a lot more appreciation for the pros. I did 8 laps, for the CocaCola 600 they do 334. It's noisy, bumpy, stiff, fast, wicked fun. Going in the corners - you really feel the G's - it wants to rip your head off - you really feel like you drive downhill into the corner. It's also hard to drive at the limit - I was getting a bit ragged at the edge. I guess that comes with experience - the Cup guys have 10 seconds a lap on me! (and about 35 mph faster.) Would I do it again. yes - I WILL do it again. :) back on topic... The dash in N4 is sad looking. They should just digitize a real dash. The steering wheel needs to go. Make it real first, pretty second. :) Ray EldredP wrote:
