It seems o me that Papy did not make a lot of money on GPL, in spite of GPL being the game of choice for lots of hardcore sim racers. As a consequence, no game based on such an advanced engine will be made for a long time (N4 looks promising, though). I do not like open wheel racing. Nor do I like oval racing. I love rallying, as well as touring cars. But, sadly, no rally game or touring car game has the same physics as GPL. That makes me wonder: Why don't Papy licence the GPL engine? Why can't Codemaster produce nice tracks for different kinds of racing, and pay Papy for the right to use their engine? As an extra bonus, such an arrangement would make EldredP slow in any game......(Sorry about this insult. I just couldn't resist <g>) Jon Andersen Jon Andersen

The GPL physics are more targeted at relatively (compared to rally) smooth tracks. >That makes me wonder: Why don't Papy licence the GPL engine? You don't give that away so easily. Although Quake2 technology is seen everywhere, that's true, and for the better. More chances are that the West Brothers will license their engine, given their Quakish approach. >As an extra bonus, such an arrangement would make EldredP slow in any >game......(Sorry about this insult. It's very easy to find a great physics engine. I did a big essay all about GPL - and it's commercial shortcomings. My conclusions were a) Licence out the GPL engine (ps - Codemasters were AMAZED by GPL - and were astonished that Papyrus or Sierra didn't do more marketing) b) Use it in a mainstream product. Well - 1 out of 2 aint bad, Doug "ymenard" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:dx0W5.35867$[email hidden]...
