I'd recommend the MSI K7T Pro2 -- it allows overclocking of the CPU
multiplier in bios, whereas the basic K7T Pro version does not. I'm
using the Pro2 with my Duron 750 system (it's a 600 running at 100 x
7.5; I have had it running at 800 MHz, and I will be pushing it past
800 once I get some memory that's more stable).

Before you buy.
Help!
My trusty Celeron started acting up, so I've built a shiny new
Thunderbird 900 on an ABIT KT7-RAID mobo, with a Voodoo5 5500.
I've been tearing my hair out because every time I try to get this new
rig to see my Logitech FF wheel (a late model "made in China" Formula
Force model) the computer locks up.
I'm running Win98, and have a SoundBlaster Live! Value, a PDPI L4, and a
3Com ethernet card.
I've tried several different approaches: first I just cloned the hard
drive from the Celeron machine (which had the same hardware in it; I
just moved everything across to the new machine). No dice. System
hangs when it gets to the desktop. Works ok if there's no LogiFF
attached though.
Then I renamed C:\Windows to something else and did a reinstall of
Windows. Installed Logitech's 3.30 drivers, same as I have been using
on the Celeron forever. Same problem. System works great till I plug
in that LogiFF or try to open the Wingman software; then it hangs.
So I formatted C: and installed a fresh Windows. Installed nothing but
the Logitech Wingman 3.25 drivers from the CD. Same problem.
I finally gave up and put everything back in the Celeron. Works great;
boots up fine; I can run GPL again (ahhh!!) and got to try out the
gorgeous new Crystal Palace. Fantastic!
Then I check my email and found that someone sent me a note saying that
Logitech found a problem with the LogiFF wheel and very fast CPU's (he
has an Athlon 1000). Said there's a patch available which fixed this
problem for him, but didn't say where to find it.
Augh!
I've scoured the Logitech site and this newsgroup with no results.
Logitech does have newer drivers, 3.62 I think, but none of the
documentation mentions system hangs with fast CPU's. The WingmanTeam
mentions a patch version of 3.62 but I couldn't actually find anything
other than what appeared to be the full 9 mb version.
Anyone know the scoop on this? Will Wingman 3.62 fix my problem? After
several days of major frustration, I don't want to mess around with the
damn Thunderbird any more unless I know I've got a solution.

Yes Alison, you have the "very fast CPU" syndrome...the 3.62 drivers are the
cure.

Do you even need the profiler software running? I forget but if possible
disable it in msconfig.

Get the Act Labs Force RS rig with shifter - then you will not have that
problem and you can freeshift. ;-)

Annoyingly happy with his Act Labs rig

I've got a PIII 933 133mhz Mobo and am running the 3.62 LWFF Driver with NO
problems!
It's a big D/L and LWFF site it pitifully slow, but it should do the
trick...
BTW.. LOVE YOUR GPL SETUPS!!!!And hope you get your site up and running
again soon.

Thanks, KO, and everyone who replied. I'll try the 3.62 drivers ASAP.

Alison, I'm running at about 922mhz and the LWFF runs normal with the old
drivers. Why not just try underclocking your cpu and see if that makes a
difference.

Dave--
Abit makes a KT-7 MOBO w/o RAID (or used to...). There's also the ABIT
KA7 KX133, MSI K7T Pro, Asus K7V VIA Apollo KX133, and a few others.

Thanks Goy, the AV7 seems pretty good, but one question.
It mentioned on board sound....How tough is that to disable...I'm
pretty satified with my A3d card right now...

Anandtech just did a comparison review of all the top KT7 motherboards
and they chose the MSI K7T Pro2A overall. Go read the review before
you decide on any one mb.

No onboard sound on my MoBo, different specs for different regions
perhaps, but in any case, it's but one keystroke in the BIOS to disable
it usually
Also, as mentioned by others in this thread, the new Microstar K7T PRO2
seems to be a very good board as well, and cheaper too, that's what we
use in our "customer" PC's, but personally I use ASUS, have done for
quite a few years and will continue to do so :-)

I've used Abit and Asus in the past, but now use Microstar. They are
every bit as good (or better maybe) than Asus.
