I have a TSW2, and I had the same problem. It's a quirk created by the
pot values that TSW uses for the throttle and brake, I believe, and not
a specific problem with F1 2000 or F1CS2K. I don't have a clutch, but
here's what you need to do to get the game to recognize the brake and
throttle if you have a TSW, so it might help you a bit:
1) Calibrate in Windows (a no-brainer, but you've got to do it first).
2) When you go into the control menu in F1 2000 (or F1CS2K) and get
ready to set the THROTTLE, you need to first depress the BRAKE pedal
before starting the selection from the menu; then, AFTER you assign the
throttle key (or bypass that portion), RELEASE the BRAKE FIRST, and
THEN DEPRESS the THROTTLE. This will give you enough "sweep" of the
throttle/brake axis to enable the game to recognize the throttle input.
3) You basically repeat step 2 to assign the brake: When you get
ready to set the BRAKE, you need to first depress the THROTTLE pedal
before starting the selection from the menu; then, AFTER you assign the
brake key (or bypass that portion), RELEASE the THROTTLE first, and
THEN DEPRESS the BRAKE. This will give you enough "sweep" of the
throttle/brake axis to enable the game to recognize the brake input.
This should get you moving in the right direction.

Before you buy.
I got the game now I can't get my TSW wheel to work. It won't recognize my
Brake or clutch pedal. I had the same problem with F1 2000 and now I've
forgotten if there was a fix or not. Does anyone know if there was a fix or
know what I need to do to get my TSW to work with this game? And yes, it is
working in Control Panel/Game Controllers.
Thanks
ZZ
Thanks JB. Unfortunately that didn't work with my TSW2Mod. the game works
with my Logi FF wheel, but not with the TSW :( If I remember correctly split
axis didn't work to wheel with F1 2000, or did it. This calibration problem
made me take F1 2000 back.
Thanks anyway
ZZ
JB,
Thanks for that procedure. When you stressed that you should re-calibrate
in Windows first, THAT SHOULD BE HIGHLIGHTED IN RED! I didn't do that
first, because my controllers were already working fine in other sims, and
F12KCS couldn't detect my TSW (not TSW2) accelerator pedal. After I
recalibrated in Windows, there was no problem.
I'm using an LWFF on ID#1, and TSW on ID#2 -- just reversed from GPL. This
set up works fine with F12KCS. However, you have to remember to enable the
LWFF centering spring to feel the FF. (In GPL it's better to disable
it.). I'll have to try reversing the ID numbers so I don't have to
constantly swap them between this sim and GPL. Although I haven't fine
tuned the controller settings at all yet, it does appear that the deadzone
in the wheel in this sim is rather large. Like I said, I haven't tried
reducing it yet.
Framerates, although unmeasured, seem pretty good at 800x600 on my Celeron
566@850 with 2 Voodoo2's, so a more modern videocard should work great.
Graphic settings were basically set to the defaults. I raised some of the
settings, but lowered a few others -- can't quite remember which ones right
now. (F12KCS rates my system as a 3).
The AI also seems OK, as I have spun and generally made a nuisance of
myself, trying to "bait" them into hitting me, (OK, I spun because I'm a
lousy driver......), and they managed to avoid me (and each other) with no
problem. I haven't gotten into the sim much deeper than that yet. -- only
a few hours.
Just wanted to point out that you can mix 2 simultaneous controllers --
something I could not manage to get to work on its predecessor.
Now, I'm just waiting for the No-CD patch.............. (Yes, I bought the
retail game.) 8-)

See JB? We might disagree on Ford racing, but I think we can agree on this
one.

Glad to help!

The folks at ISI use the Logitech FF wheel, so they must be aware of
the large dead zone. They DO hold the Logitech drivers in great
disdain, but from what I've heard, they otherwise love the wheel
itself. Can the dead zone be "tweaked" better for the LWFF by using
the F1CS2K in-game controller adjustments/settings? I know that the
speed sensitivity and such can be tweaked, but I can't recall if
there's any adjustment for dead zone. This might be something to look
into.

You can use FRAPS to measure frame rates (http://www.fraps.com/). I've
found it to be useful but not all that stable (it often closes itself
while I'm playing).

After playing around with it for more than a few weeks, I think the AI
is pretty darn good. Glad to hear you're enjoying it so far!

YES! This is a VERY nice touch! Since my TSW2 has NO buttons besides
the shifter, I'm currently using my wife's Logitech Wingman USB game
pad with the buttons programmed for the keys to request a pit stop and
pause -- it's MUCH easier to find the right buttons on the gamepad next
to my wheel than it is to drive with the keyboard balanced on my lap
(or on top of my TSW2!).

YES! That would be nice -- the beta version I used for my review
didn't require that the CD be installed, so I've become a bit spoiled!

LOL! Funny you should mention that -- I ran three quick races in
the "Championship Mode" in Ford Racing just this afternoon. I managed
to "win" a Mustang (I've got a Ka, and Escort, and a Mustang now) --
WOO-HOO! I really DO love the tracks (GREAT graphics AND layouts), but
just about the time the physics start to feel almost as good as NFSPU,
something stupid always happens and I feel like I've been jolted back
into NFS3 (in a less-than-good way!). It's sad how they came SO close
to getting it very right, and yet they still managed to get it so
wrong. Still, they accomplished their mission, because they got MY
$19, didn't they?
