Has anybody heard of this sim? Future sim? All I've heard is a rumor ABC
network is involved.
Thanks,
Tony B.

wasn't to be released on the PC. I think there is still a review on
www.gamecenter.com I'm not sure if it was the same title as above, but it
appeared to be a remake/update to the ABC Sports Indy Racing Road to the
Indy 500 game that came out about 3 or 4 years ago. The screen shots and
review sounded and looked an awful lot like the aforementioned game from
1997, just revamped to include the current paintjobs and driver/team names
that were on the circuit in 1999,
I recall that the Road to Indy game was one of the first to REQUIRE a 3D
graphics card, and had both Indy Cars and Sprint/Midget cars and included of
course the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race, but....
The AI were as bad if not worse than Cart Precision Racing from MS. And the
car physics were more arcade in feel than sim.
John Bodin can probably update us on the status of any new IRL/Indycar sims,
and I believe he still has a website that supports the old Indy Racing game,
including a car setup editor if I'm not mistaken. I also seem to recall the
Indianapolis Motor Speedway signing some sort of agreement last year with a
software developer to write a game but haven't heard much out of them since.
Let's hope someone comes out with a new CART or IRL simulator because it's
been at least 2 or 3 years and lord knows how many F1, NASCAR, Rally and
Arcade Racers since we've had a new one to mess with.

Thank you,

Myself, I'd like a series of three or four sims (CART and/or IRL, and F1 and
NASCAR) and all of the tracks for each could be used in the others as well.
So that I could run Tony Stewart around Spa or Laguna Seca, or Jenson Button
around Daytona or Darlington.

I am remaining conspicuously silent on this topic because it pains me
to even speak of it. The following was announced about a year or so
ago:
"GT Interactive Software Corporation has entered into a long-term
global publishing agreement with IMS Properties, Inc. for the
Indianapolis 500 and its sanctioning body, the Pep Boys Indy Racing
League. Under the terms of the multi-year global agreement, GT
Interactive obtains exclusive interactive software rights to the Indy
500, Indy Racing League, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indy Racing
League teams and drivers, for all PC and console platforms. In
addition, GT Interactive obtains exclusive rights to all sequels, add-
on and level packs."
Since then, Infogrames bought GT Interactive, Pep Boys pulled out as
the title sponsor for the IRL, and all we've seen as a result is one
IRL/Indy 500 game for the Nintendo 64; there was a PC-based spinoff
(port?) of that game that was due out in June of this year, I believe,
but it was scrapped in an eleventh-hour abortion (Read: It sucked so
they canned it).
So what's next? Does Infogrames have any plans? Dunno. I'm not sure
that this agreement is still in effect, due to the Infogrames takeover,
the Pep Boys pullout and Northern Light signing on as the new title
sponsor.
Don't expect to see anything anytime soon, though.

P.S. This is yet ANOTHER reason why the IRL and CART would benefit
from some cooperative promotional efforts, if not all all-out
reunification.
