If the pit board only read +1L, but the finishing board showed you -6L, then
the game probably stopped scoring you. I've had this happen SEVERAL times,
including league races. I bet it only showed time for the laps it *thinks* you
did. Example:I was in a 26 lap Laguna Seca race Saturday. It stopped counting
me after 1 lap, but I kept driving. My pit board showed me as +1L down from
the driver ahead and stayed at that value. Whe the race was over, the race
results showed me as -25L. I think the only reason my pitboard stayed at +1L
was that the driver ahead of me disco'd. Normally, the + number will increment
during the race if no one disco's... If the league admin looks at the server
replay, I'm sure he could determine where you SHOULD have finished. I don't
know how to fix this problem, and it's pissing me off...

I'll give it a shot. As I think you've guessed, when the "Results"
screen shows drivers in red, it means they've not finished on the lead
lap. However, sometimes GPL will not always track or score your
results correctly. It may show that you've finished many laps down,
when you're really only one down. I think this happens sometimes due
to warps or clock smashes or other such connection anomalies.
Re: your pitboard question, I think you meant to say the pitboard
showed that, after you were lapped, that the person in front of you
was "+L1" (or maybe it's "-L1"), indicating that this driver is one
lap ahead of you. That number is your standing in the field. The
pitboard will also obviously show how many laps are left in the race,
in the upper-right corner. If you're a lap down, and you cross the
finish line and get the checkered, your pitboard should say "L1" and
not "L0" because the Lap Number is tied to the leader's lap number.
If I have this wrong at all, someone slap me around. :)

fixed percentage, it's in the manual somewhere) of the race to be
"classified". With online races being quite short most of the time, this can
mean as little as 1 or 2 laps down on the leader being enough to not be
"classified".
The pitboard does get out of touch with reality sometimes during online
races. The results exports usually are correct, unless the game has stopped
scoring you because you crossed the start/finish line during a "warp".
Even if everything works correctly the gap between you and the guy ahead
will be misreported if you get lapped by the leader. Until the leader also
laps the guy in front of you, he will be shown as +1L (and you will be shown
as -1L to him) until you both get on the same lap again when the leader
eventually passes him as well. This is a known issue.

Hi all,
I just joined a league in which I try my best to finish races
(yes....as pathetic as it sounds, it's my only reachable goal :-).
Problem is last night, while trying to finish my race, I came accross
the finish line, got the checkered flag, had the pitboard that said
"L0". Althrough the race the board said "Whoever L1". As far as I
know, it means the guy in front of me only lapped me once. (which
didn't make sense, and I knew it).
When I saw all this, I just put on the brakes and stopped, got out,
and the summary said I was 6 laps behind and my name was red.
Would somebodyc are to explain to me the finer art of pitboards and
summary screens?
Thanks alot!

Thanks Dave. I still have one problems: when I got out of my car, my
result said -6 laps. While I was racing, everybody in front of me was
+L1. But nobody was even remotely was bad as I was. The absolute
worst person except me was -1L at the finish.
Also, regarding that finish....you're saying that the number of laps
left refer to the leader....then when I had the checkered flag it
should have said L6, is that it? It sure said L0....but I confirmed
at the end that I had only run 24 laps out of 30. (I only had time for
those 24 laps)...
Something seems to be wrong...I just can't put my finger on the
explanation that would unravel this mystery for me....
The bottom line is: how do I know when to stop racing and go to the
pits? I could always count my laps in my head, but I am having enough
trouble staying on the road as it is...:-)
Thanks
Mike

you are 6 laps down to the leader.
When you are on the track however, it will show you how far behind the next
car on track you are, which would have been in your case -1 lap. When you
finished the race and it showed lap 0, that is the amount of laps that you
had to complete to finish the race, if you have been lapped you will finish
the race in less laps than the leader.
In effect once the leader has taken the chequered flag, all cars will finish
the race when they cross the finish line on the lap they are on, not the
full amount of race laps.

THANK YOU! That has mystified me for ages....so it doesn't let all
racers complet the race....hmmmm
thanks!
Mike
That's actually how all real races are run as well, at least all of the
series I know of ;)

:-)
I, like most people, stop watching when the winner finishes...
But then again it sounds logical, as you'd have very dangerous victory
lap if you didn't stop at this point :-)

Just as in real life racing. The leader takes the chequered flag and then
all other competitors behind him complete the lap they are currently on.

But the fact that you're a lap down doesn't cause your name to be displayed in
red. I ran a race at Road Atlanta, finished 2 laps down, and my name was
listed normally. But, I also ran an extra lap - I wasn't sure if the checkered
flag was for me or the leader who was passing me... It seems that I'd stopped
when I saw the checkered before, and my name was in red. If I do an 'extra'
lap, it isn't.
