Bruce,
Have you stopped to think how difficult it would be to actually execute
a file with a .jpg extension? I don't know how your pc is setup, but I
can tell you with mine (and virtually all others I've used) if I click
on a .jpg file, my graphics editor/viewer starts up and "attempts" to
load the image file. If it isn't a valid jpg then it doesn't load. I
fail to see how this could/would execute virus code... Please explain
if I'm missing something. I guess you could go out of your way to
configure your OS to execute files with the extension .jpg, but I'm not
sure why anyone would actually do that!

Before you buy.
Full-size Lotus 49 GPL cockpit and attachment safety
Posters discussed pictures of a full-size Lotus 49 replica cockpit running GPL, sold by Ball Racing Development for around 20,000 pounds. Much of the thread argued over whether a JPEG attachment could carry a virus, with Bruce Kennewell later saying he had been joking. Others shared links to similar commercial and university driving simulators.
Automated summary.

Thanks I'll remember than next time I get an atachment named ILOVEYOU.vbs
I'll rename it to a jpg and it'll be totaly harmless when I've drunk a
bottle of vodka and decide to execute it for a laugh ;0)

Hey, Humberto,
Any viruses we should know about in the attachment. I for one do not
download att's from people I don't know!

Rename an .exe file to .jpg and see what happens...

Even safer than that, as it was a simple hypertext link, not a jpeg
file. However, the NG won't be safe from another flame war from the
principals involved -- I can see the sparks under the tinder already...

Impressive stuff, but I would rather use that amount of money on a new

But there is one thing about such full-scale replica systems. I take
it you have to change the camera position in GPL, since there is no
use in having two dashboards and four wheels no front of you. And the
values for the gauges should be fed out the serial port to put into
the model. Also, if you first use the money on something like this,
one tiny screen in front isn't enough, you need three in front and one
or two behind for the mirror image. Five computers in a LAN with good
camera settings should handle this :)

It's actually from Ball Racing Development, a UK firm
(http://www.interactiveracing.com/), which has recently set up shop in a
number of locations around the globe.. It's only about $30.000 (20.000
pounds UK), IIRC (can't access the page right now).

Hi Olav
I tried GPL with three screens once, worked really well!
What we have with this 'simulator', is just a full size model of a Lotus
with a monitor perched on it, running a copy of GPL on a pc placed near
it. Just think of it as being a very expensive desk :).
Cheers

I'm sure it could be accomplished somehow but as I'm not a programmer I have
no idea.

No it wasn't. It was an attached JPG. Hypertext links generally
aren't 50K unless the URL is *really* long.
