Like I said, I'm slow on the uptake...I lost a sentence or two in there somehow: was trying to say that I'd finally managed to finish every GPL track at least once and was able to upload my not-so-stellar +100 results to GPL Rank.... ;-)
Thanks. That's exactly what was wrong. Moving the slider for deadzone to the far right is actually the setting for minimum deadzone. Should have thought to try that, I suppose. At any rate, it's working great now. itazura Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
I am using a T2 steering wheel, but as far as I can remember, I had a similar problem when I installed Viper Racing. The adjustment for the deadzone works in the opposite from what appears to be the narrowest setting, so try setting it to the opposite extreme and see what the effect is. Also verify that the calibration of your joystick or wheel is correct and that you are getting full range of motion, by recalibrating your joystick from the windows 98 control panel.

OK, I'll admit that I'm a little slow on the uptake. I finally bought myself a copy of GPL and Viper racing this past month. I've been having a blast with GPL and even time(once I knock about a minute and a half off that Ring time....) My question pertains to Viper Racing, though. Although the setup program allows for adjustment of the controller deadzone, I find that even with the deadzone set to the absolute minimum and the steering range set to the maximum, the cars are almost undrivable due to what feels for all the world like a big deadzone and tiny steering range (the little test bars that move on the setup page seem to confirm this as their movement shows that Viper is not recognizing the full lateral range of the joystick nor picking up fine movements right around the center). Is there something I'm missing? I'm using a CH Products USB Combatstick and it works beautifully with GPL and all other racing games I've tried thus far. One issue may be that Win98SE seems to "automatically" recalibrate the stick every time I boot up (it's never troubled me as it seems to do a very accurate and consistent job). Thanks in advance for any help, itazura Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
Perhaps you can try a setting up your joystick as a different brand and model in win9x. I know that has worked for me fooling some games to make a joystick work better in it. itazura wrote:
