Hmm, based on the footage and the period, it wouldn't be Jo Schlesser would
it? No...no, on second look the rear wing is far too large...and I'd hate
to think they used a fatal crash for the video. My guess is that they
staged it with some props. Great stuff!

I agree, great song. Used to crank up the stereo for the start. Haven't
listened to that one in a long time.

By the way, not a real crash. They staged it with a ring of fire around
their own car.
Marc
The BEST F1 racing song I can think of is by George Harrison.(yes the
Beatle) I think it's called 'Faster' and it about Jackie Stewart. Actuall
F1 start
recorded at the beginning of the song.

Great- thanks for the links! And who would think that Ken Tyrell would show
up in a music video? Maybe Speedvision should run this a time or two. :-)

I think you're right. The picture disc for Harrison's single "Faster" shows
a JPS Lotus and I'm pretty sure that its Peterson driving since it's the 6
car.
picture disc: http://user.tninet.se/~pfs291o/fasterinfo.htm
Then again, the disc on the left shows Stewart, G Hill, and a bunch of other
racing greats.

I went to the above site, linked to the lyrics. Didn't find any specific
mention
of a single driver in the lyrics, although the 'master of going faster' line
would
tend to indicate a World Champion. But this was at the end of the lyrics,
I don't know if it was included by George Harrison, or Dark Horse records,
or
the webmaster...but here is what was written at the bottom of the lyrics.
Looks like we were all correct, at least partially...
"Faster" is inspired by Jackie Stewart and Niki Lauda.
Dedicated to the Entire Formula One Circus.
Special thanks to Jody Scheckter, In memory of Ronnie Peterson.

Uh, Speedvision usually reruns 'Formula 1 Saga' on Mondays before they replay
the previous weekends' F1 race. As I recall from that show (I think!), the
song was actually about Ronnie Petersen, and JYS appeared in the video as a
limo driver for Harrison (how cool is that!).
I will have to sort thru my archive of hundreds of unlabeled videos to confirm
this, but that's my recollection, fwiw...
