Yes, but your RAM and processor aren't helping either

Could be. I'm running on a P2/400, 128 meg, with a Riva TNT2, and I
can pretty much stay above 30fps at 800x600x16 with 50% detail bias.
It drops into the high 20's with 2 online opponents visible.
I'm 100% sure this machine isn't going to cut it for AI or big online
races, but I'm going to wait until after the holidays to upgrade.

Not an expert, but obviously smarter than you.

I've got a voodoo2 3DFX card and the latest drivers. I run a Pentium2
400 mhz, 96 megs ram. My frame rate on the N4 demo fluctuates between 8
and 15 fps. Undriveable. Is it my voodoo2 thats making things so slow?

Both that and your CPU. It's unfortunate but nobody will be able to cope up
seriously with N4 unless we have a high-end CPU and either a V5 or GeForce
II card.

I have a P2 450, 128mb, and Voodoo2 under Win98SE and N4 runs fine in
800x600x16 mode. The graphics aren't as good as somebody who has a newer
vid card but the framerate is fine. I have even the detail turned up all
the way.

i can turn the grafix down and get up to 31. it doesn't look good but you
can drive it. also even more fps changing the view, especially the front
bumper. but... might as well continue with n3 as far as the fun factor.
we have to upgrade for this. ho hum.

But how will it run with 43 cars? The demo runs fine on my PIII500,
but I'm affraid my pc won't be fast enough to handle 43 cars either..

I want to be able to run N4 in D3D (w/ 4XFSAA) at 1600x1200x32 with
everything max'd and get 50fps. 128MB GeForce 3 maybe?

Well, the demo works qute fine - around 30 fps - in my still more modest
PII350, 64Mb, Voodoo2, 8Mb... There is something wrong in your system
settings?

Without trying to start an opinion war, 4xFSAA would mean that 640x480
STILL looks good; I don't think even on 21" anything above 800x600,
when filtered nicely, will be worth much.

a Geforce2 MX as a good upgrade till I get the money for a new computer??
Looking to run CM2, GPL, GP3 etc etc
Cheers

be a little more realistic with the graphics settings in N4. Compromise on
the details and draw-distance slider-bars for a better frame rate. If you
have the money you should definitely replace the CPU and V2 though. More
games than just N4 need a faster PC than you have.
If you only had money to replace either the CPU *or* the V2 but not both,
i'd say a new video card would probably make more of a difference.

decent.
I also have a 32mb AOpen Savage IV chipset video card.
I tried it with both and the Savage 4 in D3D worked best for me....was
getting around 24-39fps...I know it's not great but for what I had..thought
it was decent.

P2 400mhz, 64mb RAM machine here with a Voodoo2 card. I'm getting 30fps
constant in Testing mode.
