Well, in the UK at least, PC games are increasingly coming in DVD-style cases (though usually without the extra big cardboard box). For example, Championship Manager 00/01 and Command & Conquer 2 both come in DVD-style packaging. Makes it easy for the companies to go over to DVDs instead of CDs down the line. -- David. I would be willing to bet the RETAILLERS are behind the move. Those big huge pc boxes suck up way to much shelf space. If all the companies moved to DVD style packages, then the wars over shelf space would be minimized. dave henrie "David Buttery" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

That's a good wow, I like the wider roads, more scope to slide around and not hit things, the Impreza feels very like my real one (albeit a bit quicker) on the very windy French roads. I haven't tried the Focus yet, but they all have the same spec. ( the Mitsubishi is a tad heavier though). Andi. >>A simulation that would model NASCAR Winston Cup with a Bristol track30meters large wouldn't be fun no?<< Yes... er that is, who says?... At least it might not be unappealing to everyone... I find RC2000/Mobil One Rally loads of fun.. But I also enjoy Rally Masters and CMR for the sheer fun of oversteering the car through corners by feathering the throttle and using the handbrake... And if those corners or roads are a bit wide or forgiving then so be it. All the more reason to "hang it out"! I've already talked with the folks from www.interactcd.com and they should be getting CMR2 in the states in about a week... I'm planning on ordering it straight away...And no I don't work for them Mr Incubus.... But I am a fan of Codemasters games/sim's! CMR and Toca2 are still on my hard drive and I take them out every so often for a spin just for fun... The crossover between arcade and simulation to me, is a refreshing change from the hardcore simulation games like GPL... I also enjoy NFS Porsche Unlimited and Viper Racing, but that doesn't mean I'm not a diehard race fan or a fan of pure sim's either, nor does it mean i m a proponent of arcade racers... Hey.. I'm just a fan of racing and racing games.. Sad, nothing is like opening the big box of a new sim... But I don't think it's because it makes it easier to use DVD's instead of CD's. I mean, A DVD doesn't HAVE to be in such box. -- Olav K. Malmin remove .spam when replying

That's all you really get anymore anyway. A small pamplet-sized "Quick Start" manual (the rest is in PDF or HTML on the CD), and probably five dozen registration and advertisement cards that never get filled out and get chucked straight to the garbage can. Say, remember years and years ago when software came on one diskette in a little baggie, and all documentation was in README.TXT? Then software needed 20 or more diskettes and user manuals the size of a medium-sized city's telephone directory. Now.... software comes on one disk, which comes in a little paper baggie (albeit inside a big box), and all documentation is in a file on that disk. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Yes, I guess that's about the size of it. Most flight-sims I ahve bought come with pretty hefty manuals though. But, I expect that will change too. I have on PC game that came in a DVD case (Sid Meir's Antietam). I like them.
