Although I can't find the application yet, It has been found by others
in VROC. There was quite a long discussion about it there today. All I can
get is that Paul Thurston created this patch that'll alow you to put a Lotus
engine in a BRM and ect.. (change engines with chassis).
Can I put a DFV in my F3 Lotus? ;)

the racing more interesting if we allow different combinations.

Good, then it means I'll be able to put my Honda chassis with a better
engine at low and mid-revs :)

Well, at least being able to put a BRM H-16 into a Lotus chassis (albeit the
wrong type but still...it's a Lotus) is historically accurate.
Also being able to place a Ford Cosworth into a Brabham chassis is
accurate....but not for 1967.

Harjan,
I too have always wanted to drive the Lotus with the Eagle engine. I'm
quite anxious to see if I can indeed go faster with this combo.
Unfortunately, I can't help but feel a certain sadness that just about
everything associated with GPL will henceforth have a cloud of suspicion
associated with it. Schubi might even shut down with something like this
and that would be a terrible loss.

Tell me how you can see that on GPLRank?
so I don't think it's a big problem for online racing.
Tell that to the people that volunteer their time to administer
leagues, and who now have to spend even more time checking to see what
engine is being used.

Be sure it will be back up when the community calms down and creates
standards. I mean let's remember his site was down when Gp3 was released

IN that case, someone with the time and programming knowledge needs to
write a utility that can detect it. Maybe that's impossible, but if not -
now we're going to find out if the much-vaunted "sportsmanship" in the GPL
community is genuine...

Couldn't agree more Don...
This will basically put the Leagues around in a coffin.... or exponentially
increase the time to administer.
Remember that conversation we had at Molson Indy Vancouver about
"responsible editor releases"... here is a classic case.
The community as a whole will suffer.... although many will find it cool
personally.
I can see the finger pointing and "Cheater!" calling already..... here we go
again... too bad really.

The Autocourse of 1967 gives the following measurements:
Ford DFV: 356 lbs. engine/98 lbs. gearbox/410 HP
BRM H16: 484 lbs. engine/135 lbs. gearbox/418 HP
Since this patch doesn't factor in the engine/gearbox
weights it seems about 165 lbs. shy of being historically
accurate, Lotus 43/49 differences aside. Kind of like putting
the driver on a mega-slimfast program. ;-)

Certainly a bit closer in weight as the have the Repco V8
weighing in at 360 lbs and the gearbox at 125 lbs.

There are so may people way faster than me as it is that I dont mind..
Alot of people race against the "faster" cars with "slower" cars just for
the challenge of beating them, through consistancy or what have you.... It
would have been nice if the type of car that appeared as being driven would
be changed so that we knew that that driver was using a new "type" of car.
Leagues are the one place where honesty is usually expected and this whole
doorway in GPL should not matter. But again this is the real world combined
with a virtual world and thing never seem to line up right. Besides when did
Jim Clark ever in his career run 10+ Int. Short races in one day? :) Now
were all a bunch of cheaters... especially cheating death.

How about the rampant "CHEATER!" that is inevitable from the various
"who-knows-who" club"?
Quit thinking inside the box guys..... the editor is available...... the
accusations will fly..... the community is toast....
a sad day.

So when you want to check, it'll take less than 2 seconds to hear which
engine being used.
Now...there's an idea; any way of actually modifying the weights, George?
I'd like to be able to simulate the correct (or as near as possible)
parameters of an H-16 in a Lotus and a DFV in a Brabham.
